Bad idea, as people will be editing posts to make others look stupid. eg:

Jim: You are an idiot
John: Shut up you numpty

Then Jim edits his original post to say:

Jim: I only want to be your friend
John: Shut up you numpty

and makes John look bad. People will abuse it.
What that first post actually says, is ...

another-view: Jayne, are an idiot
Jayne: Shut up you numpty

Jayne: I only want to be your friend
another-view: Shut up you numpty
Completely agree. We need an edit button like a fish needs a bicycle.
Shut up you numpty.

LOL
Hehe!
If a fish had a long way to go he might appreciate a bike BM... His little fins might get tired... ;0)
But what if [edited]

What happens then ?
Well the return of the edit before you submit that we used to have would be good...and it was handy for checking links worked before you posted
^ I agree with that.

On most boards edited posts are shown with the date of the last edit (unless it was soon after the initial post) so any tomfoolery is obvious. It is no justification not to supply posters an edit button.
