Morning ladies!

I thought i'd started last night and got very excited, but fell asleep and was gutted to wake this morning and realise that it had stopped. I know what my BH feels like now (well, i think so) - tightenings across my abdomen, and from what i've read, a proper contraction should be a period type pain low down with possibly some back pain... Well, last night i was lying in bed getting these low down period type pains and they weren't too painful but not subtle either. Was getting some back ache too although could have been how i was lying. and this happened quite a few times within the space of an hour and a half (yes, all the while, hubby is snoring next to me and i'm watching the clock go to 1.30am.....thankfully my loyal cat keeps me company!) Anyway, i've obviously drifted off becuase at 3.20 i was up for the loo and felt nothing.

I'm only one day over and i can feel the frustration really taking hold already. I've decided to get outside today (not been out for days) and tempt fate - going to mooch around the tesco extra (i'm weird, i like supermarkets!), buy something nice for tea and hope that being outside tempts fate... We'll see!

so could what i felt last night still have been BH or could i have started?? and can this behaviour go on for weeks??

morning Nat, Red, MBoo, Psychick, Warpig et al! xx

Morning Lorrymac, had to say whether BH or contractions. With me, the contractions were, as you say, like period pains but getting worse with each one, there was a definite difference between the BH and contractions. When my contractions started I rang the hosp and they told me to have a hot bath etc, mine were coming every 5-6 minutes but the hosp said that these would settle down to longer periods so it could be contractions with you but they have just settled for the moment. (in my case hosp was wrong, they didnt setttle and baby was botn less than 3 hours after phone call, but thats another story!).

Sounds to me like it could be the start of labour so dont stray too far from home, but as you have seen from other posts this can drag/niggle for days before anything really starts happening.

Keep us posted, gotta go, the piglet is up!

warpig xx
I'm going to be left behind aren't I? LOL

Hiya Lorry and warpig (how is Lexi doing?xx).

I, too, was getting pains low across my front yesterday - like really tight ligament pain that made it hard to sit up or even stand normally, I kind of have to roll to one side and then lever myself upout of a chair! I have noticed how tired I have been getting the past couple of days too, there has been a dramatic difference - I wake up around 5am, (I go to sleep around 8-9pm so am getting plenty) but by lunchtime I need a little nap! So far this morning I have had nothing but the "regular" mild pains and I think that these mostly are either wind (sorry!) or me needing to pee, nothing exciting :-(

Lorry, you're not alone, I have spent this morning on Tesco website making a list - I love supermarkets! I love making lists even more (think Monica from Friends). In fact, trolling round Tesco with a list (in order of course) is one of my favourite things to do!
Lorry, are you taking anything to try and hurry it along? Fresh pineapple, raspberry leaf, etc?

I have been taking raspberry leaf 3times a day since I was 36 weeks and my twinges and twitches began within 24 of starting to take it, although it may just be coincidence of course.

I have fresh pineapple on my list for Tesco and if baby has not shown any more signs by the weekend (I'm thinking another show / better pains) I am going to start Red's suggestion of nipple tweaking ;-P
Hi nat, lexi is fine, fat and happy, she has just been feed and changed and is now watching Friends on tv!!!!

Take all the sleep you can get for now, after the birth I reckon you are on a sort of high but after a few weeks the tiredness starts to kick in, I am still knackered and I had 9 hours sleep last night!

As for the pineapple, i believe you need to eat around 8 of them!!!!!! There are other things Red recommended but lets not go there unless you are really deaperate!

warpig xx
natalie, you know that it takes about 3 fresh pineapples or something to get enough? and thats more likely to give you the squits than labour i reckon lol

Lorry, is baby fully engaged? I aske as i had such a pain before that bend in a tight band across the bottom of my bump and around my back (though mine was a constant pain) and my midwife said it couldve been baby engaging.

My BHs have been very painful, when ive got them, in last couple of weeks too. To the point where i cant sit or stand in a comfy postion and walking is impossible, but like yours they go away when i go to bed.

But at 40 weeks its likely yours are the start of maybe a slow labour. All i can suggest is that you try and ensure baby is in optimum position for the contractions to be making a difference. No slouching in chairs, try and sit so that babys head is on cervix so that the pressure causes it to open. You can do this by getting on all fours as much as possible or by sitting on a dining chair facing the back so that your pelvis is tilted and the correct angle.

A contraction will apparently feel like AF pain at first but will increase in strength and will start at top of bump and run in a circle around to the bottom. I cant recall mine feeling like this but I read it when searching the other week.

Keep active, but dont overdo it, you never know when you may need the energy.

Good luck and keep us posted xx
lol warpig, even Im not desperate to try some of the things i recommended

Sorry red, should have pointed out that you only recommended them, not tried them, lol. Lets hope it doesn't come to that!!!!!!
i will go as far as the nipple tweeking but anything tha involves mr CRX just aint gonna happen lol
Hi Lorrymac, It's been 20 years since my last pregnancy, but it seems like baby is just getting ready to meet you!!! I was 2weeks overdue with mine but desperately didn't want to be induced. I got BH quite regularly in the 'run up'. The night before he was born I went for a long walk while eating a cornetto ice cream (it was November!!!). At 4-30am the next morning I was woken with contractions and trust me, half an hour later I was convinced it wasn't BH!!! I'm pretty sure, when the real thing starts you'll know. Don't worry, it will come when it's ready..just make the most of your last few days of 'you time' Hope all goes well. By the way I think it was the walk not the cornetto that got me going!! but who knows!!!!
lol red, thankfully I didnt need to try anything like that!

Morning lorrymac, I really dont think you will be long now but I have to say, you will know when theyre proper contractions! I kept saying is it or isnt it in the week or two leading up to my babys birth. Although this was my 2nd, I had been induced with my first so, like many on here have their firsts, I had no clue whta it felt like to go into labour. I was getting period type pains that were enough to wake me up. These stopped and started throughout the day then suddenly I they started getting stronger and regular and I had no doubt it was definately it!

I was told by the hospital that when I was getting them regular for over an hour, call them. They said they didnt have to be really bad to call as you can have mild ones but still be progressing where as irregular ones usually mean youre not progressing.

Do you have anyone who can either post on here if you go into labour but cant post yourself because you know how impatient we all are lol
I read that it was two pineapples a day, I am going to buy four and then see if it makes a difference. Squits could quite possibly be a welcome change to the peeing every 3minutes that I am doing at the moment!

Has anyone heard from Lorry since this morning? I wonder if things are happening..... At this rate yours will all be starting school and mine still won't have made an appearance. You'll see me on a Channel 4 documentary about "The woman who gave birth to a five year old".

Hey ladies!

I'm still here - just dragged hubby round a Tesco Extra for about 3 hours - he's not impressed!! but i mooched around slowly to keep on my feet but occupied at the same time - i couldn't go out for a walk for that long - it's freezing today!!! I felt a bit yukky for a while in the supermarket, been getting more pains and stuff - i can definitely sense baby making lots of downward pressure. Anyway, back home now and gonna sit on my ball for a while - amuses hubby no end!

Warpig - I'm not too worried about not knowing if it is labour or not, i guess i just want to hear someone tell me that it's DEFINITELY going to happen today...or tomorrow....and i know that's not possible but i just hope that last night could be the start of things kicking off rather than BH, although it did feel different to the usual tightenings, completely actually. although i'm getting tightenings right now annoyingly and not the period type pain. Although, doing research - you can find a different explainations of how BH feel compared to real contractions on various websites.

Natalie - your post made me laugh so much - we're like peas in a pod!! i make more than one shopping list before i go and my "final draft" is in order of how the shop is laid out i.e. fruit and veg first etc.... my husband thinks i'm bonkers and laughed at your post when he read it too!! unfortunately he lost our list today so we did the other method - going up and down every isle - drives him mad but makes sure i don't miss anything... do you do that too??? when is your due date again Natalie? not till April is it? and no, apart from my ball, i'm not doing anything to hurry things on, i'm a bit spectical about stuff like that.

Red - baby has been engaged for a few weeks now but at last MW appt was 2/5 - she said it wouldn't drop more till labour. i have been feeling loads of downward pressure though and baby has been butting my bladder and that general area for the last few weeks which has caused a fair bit of pain - all feels different to what i was experiencing last night though. but it could have been just BH i know.... but can BH change from being the whole tummy area tightening thing to then being like a period pain?? is both sensations BH?!?!?

so can contractions start then stop for hours or even days??? (i hope not days!!!)

there is no one that can post for me but i'm quite sure that i will be able to post at least before i go into hospital and if for any reason i have to stay in, i will ask Hubby to post on here to let you know!!!! xx
LOL nat, squits are probably guareented!!!! Although one of my friends did say that having a baby was like having a big poo! Now if that is a big poo in her household I am glad I am not related..............................ouch!

xx
Glad I am not the only one driving my fella potty with lists of lists of lists ;-)
I like to think I am organised, he reckons I have OCD :-P

I am due April 3, so really have no place to be moany about waiting because officially I'm not due for a week Thursday. In reality, I could go until 17April! Seem like a lifetime away.

I still have pressure down there, and mild pains but still nothing that makes me think "Woohoo! Something is happening!". Alot of the time, just by changing position it alleviates the pain although the past few days I have definitely noticed feeling more tired and being more uncomfortable than before. I'm not so big or uncomfy that I can't wander round the shops, or do housework or anything like that, it's just general getting out of the chair / bed stuff that I am noticing the difference with.

Are you all prepared for baby? Do you have far to go to hospital? The hospital is close to us, it's on the ring road outside Oxford so if I have to go in at peak traffic it could take an hour but if it's the middle of the night then I would be there in 10-15mins.
Do you know if you're having a boy or a girl? I might have asked all these things 1000 times but I'm sure you know what these pregnancy hormones are like!

Warpig - ditto re your friend LOL

He used to mock me but i find him making more and more lists as time goes on!! apparently everyone has a degree of OCD - i don't see it as a bad thing!! it's not that i need a list to remember stuff, i just like the satisfaction of crossing things off - and if i do something that wasn't on the list - it gets written on then crossed off!!

I'm more ready for baby than i've ever been. just had a lovely bath, used all my sanctuary stuff - scrubs, masks, etc and shaved and used my posh shampoo (had it years - i'm stupid about using expensive stuff) and i feel lovely! i'd be very happy if baby came now! We have everything in the house ready which has been spring cleaned from top to bottom and moses basket is sat waiting in the nursery (to be moved into our room when baby comes home otherwise the cats like to sleep in it and i'm not washing it all again!!) I'm definitely well and truly ready in every sense! I have no idea what i'm having although everyone has said it's a girl so i'm saying it's a boy. i'm really not bothered either way though.
The hospital isn't far at all - even in traffic i think it would take about 20 minutes. You're in Oxford?! been there once, stunning place! really loved it. I'm in Yorkshire.

I have to admit Natalie, if you start before me i wont' be a happy bunny so don't try too hard!! ;-P
Im still far from really ready but i did contort myself into all sorts of positions to shave my legs last night just in case. Id left them before now as i just couldnt do it lol. and the rest i cant see so dont care about.

My registered hospital is 30 mins max from my mums (where Im still registered and live 2 days a week) but its at least 1hr45mins from our house.

If i go into labour here ihave to call a local hospital (Rosies at Addenbrookes, Cambridge) and they are about 30 mins drive with a good run. In rush hour it could take 45-1lhr.

I really have no idea what im having. I havnt even got an idea or any intuition but then i didnt last time either. I dont mind either way, itd be nice to have one of each but I wont being trying and trying just to get a girl. This will be my 2nd and last baby i think.

Im finding it hard to walk now. Everything feels like its falling out down below so perhaps baby is finally engaging. Im so hoping that i dont go to 42 weeks.
We don't know what we're having either, but, like you, because everyone has told me they think it is a boy I think it is going to be a girl! We did ask at the scan but baby had it's legs crossed so we couldn't see! I'm really glad now that we didn't find out, I think the excitement and not knowing is making it more bearable.

I am doing all my pampering bits in the morning, I have tomorrow booked off work and hubby will be out from 7-4 so I am going to spend the day defuzzing and smoothing at my leisure. It will probably take me that long just to manouver myself into a position where I can shave my bits without going arse over tit!

Red, do you have a preference as to which hospital you are at? Which did you use last time?
i used the one near my old home (the QEH at kings lynn) and it was great, thats why i stayed with them this time around. The hospital came 5th in the country for maternity services. Rosies is a maternity hospital but ive been told that it can be a bit too clinical and regimented. I dont mind which one i go to to be honest as long as i find room when the time comes lol
Morning all, I thought I would sign in early as I have been up half the night, not with pains or anything and I wasn't even particularly uncomfortable I just had a whole new array of sensations! I think baby has engaged now, and I hope it stays put!

I woke up at 1:30am and was still awake at 4am, I kept getting tightenings across my belly that would almost pulse and then subside, then begin again. I could feel sensations in, I guess, what would be my cervix. None of them were painful or uncomfortable, but enough to make me aware of what was going on.

Either way, I am shattered so I am going to have some breakfast (that was the funny thing too, when I woke upI was absolutely starving despite only having had dinner before going to bed!) and then have a bath and probably go back to bed for a nap.

Lorry, we have the same problem re cats in the moses basket, I have had the baby's room door closed up for weeks since I washed everything in there because I can see thecats getting ocmfy in there. And reference to lists, I am that sad that in the chest of drawers for baby's clothes I have arranged them in size order i.e. top drawer is newborn, 2nd drawer is 0-3, 3rd drawer 0-6, etc. The bottom drawer is blankets. Obviously. LOL

Hope things are all ok for you xx

Red - do you think babyRed has turned now?
