i bought a computer from a mail order catalogue and it has not worked properly since day one i have had engineers out on several occasions and everytime they leave a different fault occures what can i do to get a refund or a complete new system please

Write to them, recorded delivery, say you believe the machine is not fit for purpose, list all the engineer's visits and the outcomes. Say you want it fixing and 100% working by such a date OR a full refund. Say if it isn't resolved to your satisfaction by such a date, you will start proceedings in the small claims court (check that what you paid does fall within small claims limits) on the grounds of the machine not being fit for purpose.


Keep copies of all correspondence, avoid doing things by phone, get everything in writing. You'll need the documentation for the court.


SCC is a doddle, you can do it all yourself. All you need are the forms (off the internet), documents to prove (as best you can) what you claim and the ability to explain what happened. It's very informal, and anyway, most people/firms don't even bother to contest any dispute as it costs them more than to pay up.
