Good Morning Early Birds
51 Answers
morning all, i hope you are in fine fettle and that the heat isn't affecting you too much.
i woke around about 4am and i am now fully awake with various chores like the washing on the go. that won't take long, and i then have the rest of the day to chill or not.
The weather does seem somewhat extreme but the forecast is for showers and thunder storms, so perhaps it will break the humidity.

Talking of bits and bobs, I've seen some nice stuff recently. I'm talking a wall clock and bits and bobs for the kitchen / diner, some shelves, etc. I've got a tile sample coming today but I'm fairly confident it's exactly the same as the one I've already got which will be fantastic as it means that we'll save nearly £600 on the floor tiles from the other quote we received. I think the tiles are being discontinued so I want to get the order in soon. We need approx 95sq metres.
How are you managing to sleep in this dreadful heat?

trying to sleep in this heat, half the time its on the sofa as i am falling asleep from the warmth early on in the evening, but i can catch up if needs be in the day time.

Good Morning, unusual for me to be up with you early risers :-)
/// I really fancy visiting Canterbury///
I can recommend it. Although I was born in Kent we left the area shortly after the war and until 2 years ago I had never been back.
Then a week in Canterbury solved that, and I found it a delightful town, although a bit tourist-heavy in high season I would imagine. Go for it.

It's hard to say, Emmie, OH is doing a lot of work himself to save money (and because he's good at it) but also we have to work around the schedules of others such as the Plasterers, Plumbers and Electrician. Trying to get people to come and do their bits when we need them too isn't always easy.
The kitchen, etc, is due to be fitted on 16 August but OH has had a meltdown and says we just won't be ready in time. He wants the whole floor tiled by then (he's doing this himself with the help of his dad) and the brickslips mostly done prior to the kitchen installation and he says there's no way the utility room will be ready by them. Plasterers can't come and do their bit until OH and FIL have plasterboarded that room. FIL can't help out this week as he's having a new kitchen fitted himself at the weekend so OH is going round theirs tonight to help lay the underfloor heating and the screed.
It's a nightmare, honestly. He's going to have to call the kitchen place later and see if we can delay by at least a couple of weeks.

It'll all be worth it in the end Emmie. We've had to strip everything back to the bare bones. Every wall and ceiling has been replastered, every skirting board replaced, new flooring throughout the entire house, new internal doors, all-new windows and doors, a whole new re-wire, extensive plumbing (as one of the main bedrooms was converted into a bathroom and the pre-existing bathroom was turned into a walk-in dressing room) and we've had a big extension out the back and added in a utility and downstairs shower room plus an extra bedroom over the garage to replace the one we turned into a bathroom), a new boiler, all new light fittings, shutters, built-in wardrobes, new stairs, and much more besides. It's all the little jobs you have to do that are time-consuming, all the trips to Wickes, B&Q and Screwfix to get bits and bobs to do the little jobs and so it goes on.
Will you venture out today?
Thanks for that, Canary, I will definitely make the trip one day.
