Meeting family and friends for a great meal in Hemingford Grey then wandering in the dark along the towpath to The Manor for an evening of M.R James ghost stories told by Robert Lloyd Parry.

Twenty of us in a 900 year old room.......candlelight, mulled wine and story telling......what could be better..........♥

Bliss tonight was polishing the old weapon ready for the penultimate foray of the season.
Walnut and blued steel, a combination made in Birmingham...
Going to The Manor for an evening of M.R James ghost stories told by Wotshisname from QI?
I love Hemingford Grey Gness, have walked along the towpath on many a holiday! x

Birding again, Shoota?...x

Noooo, Talbot.......that would be an evening alone with Wotshisname....

'Tis lovely, Ann....have you been in the house and seen the quilts?
What other reason would there be for polishing the shoota G?
Question Author

Night, Shoota...x
//Ann....have you been in the house and seen the quilts? //

No we have never done that, we are usually staying in the caravan somewhere nearby so just stop the car for a walk along the river path. Is the manor open to the public? It's a few year since we have been - think the last time we stayed at Wyton Lakes.

Diana opens the house now and again for small groups.....and it's fascinating.....you can always ring her and say you're in the area....she'd probably do a little tour for you. She's really accommodating......
The gardens are open most of the time I think....but again you could just wander around.

She's putting on an open air performance of The Importance of Being Earnest in the summer....will try to make that......x
Excellent! I wish I could have been there. gness. :o}
Sounded good how was it.
Was it The Cock at Hemingford Grey, Gness? I've often thought about walking there from Houghton Mill, although that does mean having to get past the Axe & Compass in Hemingford Abbots while remaining reasonably sober! (Houghton is one of my favourite villages in the country; it's an absolute delight).

Hi, chaps......a great evening.....I go every year. It's an amazing room....I sat in an alcove...the room's small now since Tudor Tommy Walsh did a makeover....and the wind was howling.....a brilliant experience....if you can, do go.....and google Hemingford Grey.....such an interesting place and family.....I'm sure some of you will know the work of Lucy Boston....

Yes it was The Cock, Chris....well worth a walk if you can get past The Axe!......x
You should come a little further up the river to Hartford, here the local pub, the King of the Belgians (the only pub with that name in the UK) really does have a history, it was established in 1541 - has people visit from all over the world on recommedations, serves an ever changing array of "real ales" and has a superb restaurant that only holds 26 people but the food is to die for, Give it a try!
Question Author
Ahhh......I know that pub, Secsee!

When we were keeping the kids amused on a drive we played Arms and Legs....if we passed a pub on your side of the car you got a point for every arm or leg in the name of a pub sign......

The King of the Belgians was unbeatable!!
Sound like good fun gness, you should have nipped in for a pint, I can highly recommend it!
Question Author
It's not too far from me and a nice area, Secsee......so I'll give it a try.....and the restaurant......thank you.....x
That sounds lovely gness, I remember going there to have tea with Lucy Boston. My dad knew her and I used to read her books. We lived not too far away.

Are there still the topiary chess pieces, in the garden?
gness - you sound like a lovely person, so it amazes me that you are so friendly with that shoota person who loves to kill and maim beautiful wildlife ....
