Peter Oborne is a high-profile journo, held in high esteem. I would have thought it was better for the Torygraph to have this man inside the tent, peeing out, than outside the tent, peeing in !

There is a big difference between those on the right and those on the left.
On the left they have your view, as above with the mantra 'The party can do no wrong', the Rose tinted glasses syndrome we see continually on here.
Most on the right however are willing to criticize the party as they are well aware it is the only way to improve and not self implode. Again your see it time and time again on here.

sometimes I have no idea what ymb is talking about - in this case it's certainly nothing to do with the OP.
I don't think the Telegraph's behaviour is actually political, though; it's to do with making money. Its owners, the Sarkley twins, seem to have concluded that the best way of doing this is by being an advertising/propaganda sheet rather than a newspaper. Good for Oborne (not a man whose views I share, but he's acting on principle).

I still think that the Telegraph has done itself no favours here at all. As a Guardian reader, you might imagine that I rarely read anything else, and its coverage of the HSBC money-laundering fiasco has been outstanding. But I occasionally buy the Telegraph, if only for the crosswords, and its not a bad paper at all. Streets ahead of the DM anyway.
The Torygraph is still one of our best newspapers, as long as you can get past the obvious political bias. After all, its exposure of the MP's expenses business was central in the reforms that came afterwards.
But it still needs to explain why the HSBC affair was given so little prominence, for such a high profile and campaigning newspaper.

This, I believe, will be another can of worms, lefty will regret opening.
The Guardian, for instance, takes money from Bill Gates, Unilever, NGO's,(big spending)charities, and once, even a Labour Government to spin stories.
^Nothing to do with advertising, straightforward cash bungs for not so straightforward spin.
