Love this story, bless him. I hope he had a wonderful time and well done for sticking a metaphorical two fingers up to those who said he couldn't go!

Disgraceful that they said he ' couldn't ' go in the first place. They ought to be grateful he went the first time as well :(
Well done to the lovely old chap :)
Good for him. Although, unless he was sectioned, there is no way for the nursing home to "ban him" from going.
Good on him ...!!!
Since when has a nursing home been a prison? Who'd get old eh?

Good on him.
Good for him, why the home said he couldn't go is beyond me.
I hope he can enjoy the day, and come home with his memories.
Good Man.
It's the "two fingered" attitude which probably kept him alive 70 years ago.

And as for the nursing home banning him, they have absolutely no right to do so. Twits.

They don't make um like they used to! - what a smashing chap, he faced unimaginable horrors for his country so why should he be denied the journey back to pay his respects. Good on ya. xx

Good Luck to him, great attitude to have at 89
He hasn't lost an ounce of spirit - good on him !!
reading other reports, it doesn't actually say that they banned him from going....just that he went without telling them.
Probably - they can't ban him from going.
think we are all replying having read 'an 89 year old veteran was banned by his nursing home' etc - perhaps the link wasn't completely accurate and the BBC misreported the facts.
While I think it's good that he got to go and let's all hope he gets back safely again, we don't really know all the facts. He may have health conditions that we are unaware of and the nursing home might merely have advised him it was unwise. Never take anything you read at face value.
Probably all got the story from the same source.
The bulldog spirit is alive and well.
Thankfully, we had men with such fortitude 70 years ago, to whom we owe a greater debt than we could ever repay.

Well done that man.
what do they mean he was banned?? nursing homes are not kin prisons are they?
playing devil's advocate...

May be the nursing home advised him against going as he didn't have anyone to go with him, and he's 89!
first, well done that man

second, i think some of you are in for a big shock if you ever get put in a nursing home
