Afternoon D_L_C and all.
Not the easiest to start, but a nice finish
The theme is popular this week which is hardly surprising.
|
|
Hello D_C_L,
I also guessed at how the "downs" were entered, luckily it was correct. I then managed to make life hard for myself, by looking at the wrong "Epilogue" and trying to crowbar the extra letters into the phrase!
I suspect Devadolly will have looked at the compiler and had a fit of apoplexy!

Hi everybody!
Worked out early how the down answers need adjusting then took it from there. Yet another pleasing puzzle from Oxymoron.
Because of visitors I didn't get round to last week's and will be absent for a while now because of exam work. Happy solving to everybody.

Does anyone have a copy they can send me please - I normally rely on my neighbour who I forgot was away and paper shop has run out!

Thanks

Scanned copy sent x_word_fan.

Thanks so much

I also guessed the entry method for the downs at an early stage. An enjoyable workout, not too testing at all. I logged on to the site expecting to see comments about the clue to 27 across...
|
|
Hi Speravi!
27 across works. The BRB gives the appropriate definition for the last five letters of the clue entry.

Hello Everyone..........yes Doc, I have had apoplexy! That is as far as I have got, xwords definately on hold for the moment. Don't anyone EVER be stupid enough to refurbish one bedroom in a tiny two bedroomed house...........it is total madness! One needs a Phd in critical path analysis to negotiate the pitfalls of all the components..............bedroom fitters/decorator/electrician/carpet fitter/bed company, quite frankly, I wish I had stayed with the 'temporary' furniture that's been in 32 years!!!
x-w-f & K I hope you saw my thank you post on last week's thread. All done and dusted thanks to your help. No doubt I will be begging for aid and assistance by mid-week!

Hola from scenic San Antonio; here helping kid 2 pack her dorm and get home for the summer. Fortunately not a real tester this week and I was able to finish last night. Like most I guessed the method for the downs early on; like docHH I was working off the wrong epilogue for a while.
95 degrees here in South Texas!

All done, but surely 15ac wordplay produces an extRa letter!
|
|
I can see why you would say that Micky 666.
I wasted a bit of time as I was initially thinking of a biblical phrase which is the opposite of what was required!
Although I prefer puzzles to have real words this one was still enjoyable.

|
I think that I have also completed it. A good challenge, but I am unsure about one answer. Can anybody enlighten me please for my answer to 30 down . I have a name for a Gaelic eisteddfod but how to arrive at this from the given clue is a mystery.
|
|
Hi Shoni 70
I saw it as i (one) dh (das heisst -German 'that is') + ceil (line)

Shoni 70 had the answer but was asking for the wordplay.

Have just completed E V 1016 after preparing for tomorrow's and Wednesday's meetings. Many thanks to all those who provided hints on that thread.

Thoroughly enjoyed this, although I too was tempted by a different epilogue with a biblical theme. I agree with Micky666 re the wordplay for 15A. Devadolly - I don't think MrO is quite as scary with the latest offering. Well worth pursuing.

Thank you so much kayakamina. I do not think I would have ever found the reason for the answer in a month of Sundays.
|
|
Thank you for the kind words ringer, falling on deaf ears I'm afraid, I've onlymanaged to complete about 6 clues and absolutely nothing is falling/tripping/collapsing/stumbling into place and as to which epilogue...............I'm not even close, I'm off to chat to my tomatoes try and give them a bit of encouragement in this thin little east wind.
