Such a short word to mispronounce but I've just found out I've managed to.  How do you say it?

AGUE

aig to rhyme with Hague

Question Author

That's how I say it, Prudie.

I'll see if I can find a spare dunce's cap so you can sit with me on the bottom stair

I don't say it.

Heard an Americam racing commentator pronounce Maestro as

'My estro' tonight, for some strange reason it annoyed me a tad.

Can't think of ever having used that word but probably you need to find another dunce's cap!  Maybe correct would be A-goo or A-gue?

I dont use it myself but I would pronounce it, "aygyew".

ay-gyoo apparently!

Moorea is correct.

Question Author

I watched Countryfile and the woman pronounced it ay-gyooo

I laughed, my wife checked - and laughed at me. 🥴

Ay-gue

Well wow. I'm with you Barry. I shall still say it aig I think, if it ever comes out of my mouth :-)

I knew how to say it but I have to admit to having had to google it in order to remind myself of its meaning!

Thanks for joining in, nice to know I'm not the only one.

It's a word I've used since I was little.  If anyone had a cold they'd say, keep away from me, I've got the ague.

I always have mentally pronounced it to rhyme with plague. But I'm not really bothered, as I never need to say it out loud when chatting with fat bloke down the pub.

Question Author

Maybe it's more commonly used in Birmingham and the black country

Question Author

Wrongly used, obviously.  We didn't have malaria not did we say it right

It's not a word I use but if I did I would have said aig with a hard g.  So I would have been wrong.

Am I bovvered?

I'll be joining you Barry...who knew??? 🤔

I  pronounce it, "aygyew". - but not often.  -

I can't say I've been pronouncing it anyway at all. It's a new word on me, but I see from the dictionary it's archaic so I doubt I'll come across it often!

these medieval diseases are coming back, Maydup, no sooner have you got over Alaskapox...
