Why do the British find it necessary to celebrate war every year, by wearing a poppy? Is it really a sense of pride, or more of a guilt trip, bearing in mind the loss of life caused by them?

Nice answer here have some stars ***
The wearing of the poppy is not to celebrate war. It is worn in memory of those who died in two World Wars and subsequent theatres of war. I hope you can appreciate the clear distinction between your comment and the actual reason.
How was it caused by the British. Have I been misled my whole life????
And where do they celebrate, ?
I think you will find that poppy's are worn as a rememberance of those who gave their lives for us.

and in all honesty I think that if they had known how we were going to look after our country afterwards, I don't think they would have bothered,
they fought to save our country, and now weve given it away.
Where does gormless stand on this one then whiffey
It's a mixture, remembering those who died for their country, thanks for their sacrifice, time to think of all those who are currently serving their country.

Not forgetting, of course, those who spend their days in peacekeeping and other safety and aid related work while most of us go about our daily business benefitting from the work they've done and the sacrifices they've made.
It is called Remembrence Sunday - and the clue is in the title.

No-one 'celebrates' a war, it is to show the dead and the living that we as a nation appreciate the sacrifces they made for us, and for us to reflect and hope that their sacrifices will never be needed on that scale ever again.
I think that it is good to remember people whom have fought in the war - this should never happen again which is why we remember it and also because those people never had a funeral; their bodies were trampled on as the war continued. It's extremely sad. :(
very well put andy but a little bit optimistic I'm thinking.
Please people just remember what this is.

Another wind up and baiting post by S.K. sweden newsdesk/whiffey.

I will say no more as if you have not learnt this by now then you never will
Can't add much more to what has been posted Sweden - but hope you now understand why some of us choose to wear poppies on & around Armistice Day or Remembrance Sunday.
