Looking Out Of The Kitchen Window.....

I saw 4 kids scooping up the leaves and throwing them at each other. They were laughing and squealing and seemingly having a good time. I watched them for a while and decided the eldest was about 5 or 6, two more were younger and then a toddler age about 18 months or maybe 2. It dawned on me that I couldn't see an adult with them. I went out, had a look round and no adult in sight.
I watched those kids like a hawk. What sort of parent does this?

It was quite the norm when I was a child but nowadays, it seems like a very risky thing to do

My parents used to do that about 60 years ago: I guess that they were the average sort:)
I was about to say the same thing, jan. Mind you, there seemed to be kids everywhere then. My little local park always seemed crowded when I was young but for years now I never see a soul in it if I happen to walk through it.
Watching out of the window wouldn't help if one of them ran out into the road in front of a car, there's no way to run out of the house and scoop a child away from danger quickly enough in that situation.

I agree with jeza by the way, kids that age should not be outside unaccompanied by an adult.

I agree jan it was the same when I was a kid but not for a toddler.

Piper, I live in a cul-de-sac those kids dont live or visit anyone here.
Yes Svejk, there were kids EVERYWHERE when we were kids. Maybe we were all part of the baby growth after the war. Well, at least I was.

We don't have public information films any more; I think they were deemed to be too patronising.

Anyone else remember "keep the under-5s inside"

That was about road safety.
It doesn't take a genius to guess the age of kids piper.

Judgement is a dangerous thing as is assumptions

So is abduction and running into the road.
On the other hand, Jeza should not be criticized for her attitude: care and consideration are positive attributes for a person to posses.
Not a good thing these days for kids ( certainly of that age ) not to be accompanied by an adult imo.
The danger is cars. There are no more paedophiles about now as there were back then...

Does this mean I was right to be concerned and only piper thinks I'm a nosy old cow?

Umm I agree it was the road I was concerned about. They were on the grass at the top of the cds right next to the road.
I don't think you're a nosy old cow Jeza, I would also have been concerned.

Thanks Daffy.
You were right, Jeza. Roads and young kids are a dangerous combination imo.
For sure.......you cannot be looking after kids......of any age 24/7.

I agree sqad, but did you allow your kids to play in the street unaccompanied when they were under 5. Remember there is much more traffic about today.
