Those very parents that complained should be trying to educate their children and teach them to be compassionate and considerate towards others. Shame on them!!!
I heard her talkin on the radio an hour or so ago and She was being very upbeat and positive. She was born with one arm ending at the elbow. She sounds very cheery and was looking for the positives in the feed back she has had since she started the job. Most children apparently don;t even notice.
These parents appear to be somewhat narrow-minded Sachs. They should talk to their children and explain to them that there are people of all walks of life out there and not everybody is perfect rather than complain about a young woman born without a forearm.

Did'nt see that Dr, just read it. What are we teaching kids?
i find it hard to believe that people could complain

dot, how else could she be? I think personally I would be really hurt! Wonder how she really feels? I'm amazed!
My God- complaints because she's missing half an arm? That's disgusting!

I've noticed that one of the comments said that the parent thought their precious offspring might get scared- not that they actually were.

Mini Boo watches CBeebies and we've both seen this presenter, who's appropriately cheery and really quite sweet. Mini Boo hasn't noticed her arm and I have to say I didn't pay much attention to it either.

I hope the people who've made such horrible comments are now ashamed of themselves.

Think your right dot, most children are just curious, that's about it.
Question Author
No/ tiggs/ boo,
I agree!
why cant parents just talk to a child if the need arrises?
no mercy, it is nothing to do with compassion and consideration, the point being that some children are frightened by the sight of a deformed TV childrens show presenter.
It us a fact, which i can understand, some children are scared of the dark, snakes , height etc.

The trick is how do you deal with it?
Question Author
squad,
it may be that the children 'scared' of disfigurement are being brought up by 'scared' ignorant parents lacking 'compassion' Parents who transfer 'their' ignorance on to their children
Sqad, surely if the children are afraid, it is up to the parents to try to steer them away from prejudice.
sachs, you may be right, but if a child is scared of something e.g disfigurement, it may have nothing to do with it's upbringing. After explanations re. nature etc. etc the child still may answer...."yes, I understand, but I am still scared"
The other point is, that I did wonder why she had a long sleeved cardigan which she "rolled up" to expose the "stump"

Brave girl yes, compassion etc accepted, but the bottom line is that it has frightened some children.
as we all know you go through life and we meet people who have been less than fortunate either being born with a deformity or lost a limb through illness or accident do these parents want to wrap their kids up in cotton wool and blindfold them whenever they see a disabled person?..shame on them...
I was quite shocked actually when I saw her on tv, yes children need to learn people are different but some 3 year olds cant get their heads round it. I wouldnt complain about it though. But I;m sure she could do older childrens programmes
Im with Sqad
stokey ... Yes !

(and others who have made similar comments to Stokey)

In fact ...

... the names of the parents who have complained should be published so that we can ridicule them for their narrow minded cruelty.

Let's see how they like being singled out !!!!!!

Heartless b*stards.

Hi squad,
I can see your point of view. I think there is a lot that can be done though to educate a child from an early age to avoid ignorance, just takes a bit more effort from parents. Plenty of books out there aimed at all age groups about death/ disability/ divorce ect... Take the 'fear' away & educate the child!
