I don't have a sweet tooth, so subsequently i don't often have sugar in my diet. I often get really bad lows. I feel weak and dizzy and it can be only cured by sugar.

I went to the doctors about this when i was 17, and he diagnosed hypoglycaemia. I've read a little about this and it seems more prevalent amongst younger men.

Can i still have this at 37? or is it something else?

Can't you have natural sugars - fruit or fruit juice when you get the 'lows'? x

I generally have a bad diet Bathsheba, and i also forget that i get this way. It doesn't happen often, i just wondered if it was really hypoglycaemia of another condition.
Diagnosing 'hypoglycaemia' is a bit like diagnosing a 'headache'!.

Hypoglycaemia is a condition (= 'symptom'). It's not a cause. You should consult your doctor to investigate why your blood sugar levels are so erratic.

I have been having similar spells most of my adult life..I had a glucose tolerance test many years ago.....and was found to be mildly hypoglycemic....the solution is to eat little and often..especially complex carbs and good protein. An excellant source of quick yet lasting energy is a banana.DON'T have sugar.....that just creates a cycle whereby you will feel better quickly and then have a low. Eating often will help to stabilise your blood sugar levels.

Thanks for your answer Pasta.
Pastafreak is right on the money. I have experienced these hypo's all my adut life and the only control comes from combining regular exercise, regular high fibre food and especially protein. Defintely not sugary foods or dried fruits - these are fine as treats but not for controlling the hypo's.
