I have no knowledge of benefits since I have worked for the last 15 years. Does anyone know what happens if you become too ill to work, and are employed part-time and self-employed part -time, and have a mortgage?
Is there some rule where you can get the interest paid on your mortgage but only after a certain amount of time?
Thanks

if you are too ill to work then you can claim incapacity benefit, you will need a doctors note for this. also, as you have a mortgage they will pay the interest on this every month for you. get in touch with the jobcentre plus, you can go onto the website andmake a claim also.

hope this helps.
Incapacity benefit does not entitle anybody to mortgage repayments - which is why most people take out insurance for their mortgage in the event of ill health. Incapacity benefit is not means tested - it is available to everybody who is too ill to work

Help with mortgage repayments may be available if you are receiving income support, but this applies to the interest part only. It is paid for a very limited only.

You can of course get both income support and incapacity benefits, if your circumstances tick the right boxes.

Income support is means tested, so you will only qualify if your income is too low and you don't have lots of savings - your partners income and savings are taken into consideration if you have one.

hey there scarlet the only and best way out of this is get a foriegn passport and call yourself boris or something or even better be a refugge (yea ok I cant spell) and this loonie goverment will bend over backwards to give you a big house a ford capri and a huge income. but just remember not to tell them that you are english and you have worked so hard all your life to keep mr johnie forineer here as you will get nowhere.

Good luck and best wishes scarlett
Your local CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau) will give you free (and confidential) information about what benefits you are entitled to, they cover all benefits and will also help you fill in the forms etc.

They are totally independent of the government and give very useful advice.
Ethel is correct about not getting help wi the mortgage on Incapacity Benefit (IB) . If you go here, http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCPWelsh/stati c/Dev_010056.xml.html it explains the limitations. Can I just add that although you can get IB and Income Support (IS)you won't get the full amounts of both added together. If the rate of IS is more than the IB rate, you get the IB and that is topped up to the IS rate
Kp nonuts, well said, many a true word spoken in jest.
