My disgusting chain-smoking neighbour sits on his porch and smokes constantly. The smoke wafts gently over to my house which is approximately 100 feet away. The 30 foot high cedar hedge between us does nothing to stop the smoke. The neighbour sits on his ground floor balcony. The smoke comes in my main floor windows which are about 4 feet higher than his balcony. I need fresh air. I was thinking some kind of fan to suck the smoke away from my windows. Where should I place the fan and at what height. My property line is about 20 feet from my windows. Please help if you can. Thank you.

i think breathable air is pretty important.
in your own house yeah.

100%

but outside you gotta share.

sorry thats just life

shut the window.
hes not sending it in.

YOURE LETTING IT IN.

see??????????
Good grief!

I imagine the proportion of his smoke in your air is negligible in comparison to all the other pollutants.

Like legend761 says, "Get a life"...
Why is this in technology????
What do you do in when shopping in the High Street? Buy a gas mask? There will invariably be a smoker within 100 feet of you.
Get some stink bombs from the joke shop, break them where he smokes and make sure he knows it is you who is doing it. When he comes round to complain say...

"When you stop making my house stink, I'll stop making yours stink".

Job done.
thats the best answer WoWo
Are you joking! You`re talking 33 yards away, this is some distance, and with a 30ft hedge in between. Get real!
well the wonderful government have made all the smokers go outside now so thats what happens now, non smokers cant have it both ways
Go to a pub, nice and smoke free in there theses days

I was hoping for a serious technical answer that would teach me something about air currents so I could know how to arrange the fans.
Fans tend to circulate air around them. While creating a high pressure area in front they simultaneously create a partial vacuum behind them thereby pumping the air around them.

You might have a bit better results drawing air in from the opposite side of your house thereby using your house as a baffle and allow the air drawn in to exhaust in the direction of the offending smoke. Not sure this will be an effective solution but feel free to give it a try? The 'freshest' air you can find to pump in the better your results should be.
