Last night I watched the Yorkshire Farmer and his wife and 9 children running a farm. When I saw the child straddling a sheep I felt the sheep was uncomfortable with it and had to turn TV over.

So now I have come to the conclusion

Farmers not compassionate with their animals - just running a business

Vets not compassionate with their animals - just running a business

Breeders not compassionate with their animals - just running a business.

Then I ventured to Paul O'Grady and he restored my faith in compassion.

I love the way Amanda and her husband are rearing their kids
How would Paul deal with handling sheep?
Is the Supervet just running a business?
If you watched the latest series of Devon and Cornwall on C4, you'd see lots of compassionate farmers.
You have never met my vets. One and all they are lovely, will go to no end of trouble to care for the animals who need them.
Having worked in a veterinary surgery, I can assure you that your sweeping statement is incorrect.
You've reached those conclusions about farmers, vets and breeders based upon a single scene?

Have you ever watched "The Supervet"?

Pasta - I know supervet is good but you know what I can't even watch him either.

I don't know what is wrong with me - I have got so much empathy for all animals - never was like this when I was young. Never had animals in my life. And for those poor donkeys and elephants in the adverts - please.

There were 3 vets that I visited with Harvey and I could see the difference between 2 of them and the one that I liked. Big difference.

Other vets I have visited at the bottom of the street. Young girls - foreign and again I can't see the compassion.
I can't watch supervet either

can I ask why Woofgang.
IMO your sweeping statement is very wrong.
Having grown up in the country and spent a great deal of my spare time on farms and I worked part time in a old country vet I can assure you there was compassion there but he hid it under a brisk nature
The comparisons don't work, most of those who have mentioned are dealing with animals all day everyday, some in poor circumstances - Paul is a wealthy comedian/entertainer who loves animals.

Choose your viewing to the petting side and not the practical side Jenny.
I come from a long line of traditional small farmers. They are running a business. They arent stupid. They know that only good animal husbandry will keep their businesses going. My father (now retired, but a spent a lifetime in farming) is the most compassionate man I know and will never see an animal suffer. It is those farmers whose compassion goes the extra mile since they will personally end the suffering of an animal - which I struggle to do. Dad HATED doing that but would still do it.

There are of course some disgusting examples of farmers. But the majority are not.

I think you do kind, caring, compassionate, honest, hardworking farmers a disservice. But you are of course entitled to your opinion.

I would never hold such a narrow minded opinion that all Irish ladies of a certain age are slightly mad, loud mouthed, swearing, guinness drinking, thick, irritating, nymphomaniac men dressed as women. But I realise that Mrs Brown's Boys is just one example and not representative of all (and yes, I know, fictional!)
Fictional, Barmaid? Poppycock!..... ;-)
JJ I have different views on how much surgery and so on its right to put an animal through. They aren't like people who can understand that they will get better and have a good life again...all then know is pain and restraint and suffering NOW.
If the Supervet was the last resort for my beloved pet, I would take it with knobs on. Seeing the pets he treats at the end of their journey running around free, well and above all, happy, is wonderful. I love this man.
I agree with woof. Sometimes pets are kept going for the owners rather than kindness and compassion for the animal.
It’s a very sweeping statement you’ve made jj and I disagree with you.
Supervet would never do anything that isn't in the animal's best interests. He tells his clients that, when giving them the options of treatment or not.
If Bob Geldof scruff extraordinaire can become ‘Sir’
Noel Fitzpatrick definitely should
You watched one programme and you’ve come to the conclusion that all people involved with animals as part of their work are not compassionate? What a blinkered way to live your life.
