So they have promised to lower prices, if they are allowed to merge, are the powers that be really going to believe this? mergers of any kind = higher prices and less choice. even more muck meat balls, burgers, more water in the bacon and more expensive bones. Happy days

Worth just remembering this famous moment when the Sainsbury's boss didn't know the cameras were active.

There will still be choice, if you're not happy with one supermarket, shop at another. Buy your bread and cake from the baker, meat from the butcher, your veg and fruit from the greengrocer and fish from the fishmonger. Use your local markets.
Keep the supermarket for tinned and dry foodstuffs and household cleaners etc.

You don't get it, your choice is being reduced, Asda and Sainsburys will price up the same. Other supermarkets will follow in time.
One world order tactics. I mean part of it is ideal.. the other part is restricting. We'll have to go with the flow. I like Spa anyhow nice local one near me.

For a big shop tesco or if i'm feeling royalty i'll go waitrose.
you can't trust people who regularly shop at morrisons.

I don't shop at Sainsbury or Asda so I'm not bothered but that still leaves (within 5 miles of me) Waitrose, Morrison's, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Co-Op, M&S, Farmfoods, Heron Foods, Iceland.
And of course Ocado deliver nationwide.
Spoilt for choice.
Oh damn - I forgot the Spar shop up the road.

Asda/Sainburys, never set foot in either of them to be honest,
so have no idea what they offer, our favourites are Waitrose and Tesco.

nicebloke1 - I don't think you read hc4361's post properly. What he was in essence saying is that you don't have to shop in a supermarket, that's your choice. There are still small independent shops around.

Off food for the time. Do any of you remember Brut aftershave? well me still being old hat, still use it. This is a good example of rip off supermarkets, Sainsburys sell a 100mm bottle ( not lotion) Brut aftershave for £7, B&M sell the same 100mm bottle for £2.99. This is one of thousands of over priced products by supermarkets, Asda are just as bad. They have promised to reduce ( some ) prices by 10% if they are allowed to merge, that is the carrot they have dangled, at inflated prices like the aftershave they've got nothing to lose

maggiebee, Town centres are closing along with independent traders by the thousands every day, its just a matter of time before their all gone, even if you support them now, like I do.
You're being ripped off with the Brut - £2.95 inc free delivery at Amazon.
What is your obsession?
