When my RAC cover was due for renewal, phoned them to say was going to switch to Green Flag he explained that I wasn't going to have a comparable service with them but as I said was going to try them, he reduced my premium to the same as last year. maybe worth a try!!
When I first moved away from home, I was living with flatmates and was dispatched off to the off licence to get more booze late one night (I was the only one who wasn't drinking). I broke down right by the train station and called the AA who I was with at the time. It would have been easy to find me due to my location. I waited 1 1/4 hours and eventually gave up and walked home. When I got home in the early hours I phoned them and they said they had come out but couldn't find me. The lying toerags - I`d never go with them again
With Green Flag (Free, via Barclays Bank) only used them once when a Battery failed, they were there in 20 mins, Newmarket, Saturday afternoon, couple of years ago.
If didn't get them for free would pay to use them happily.
I've always used Start Rescue for my cars/bikes - only called them a couple of times and they were very quick & efficient - especially so when my car was being used by lone female who had a nasty puncture on a motorway - excellent prioritised service for her.
Hard to comment on how competitive their prices are in general, as they seem to vary (as they should) with the age of your vehicle and your callout record - but I always seemed to get a good deal.
I was in the *** end of nowhere (Staffs Peak District) when I called them for help with my bike - 30 mins & they were there - about as quick as conceivably possible.
My friend was on the slip road of a major urban motorway in my Saab with a wrecked tyre - 25 mins from call to fixed & moving again.
23, top five breakdown cover on the right lower down. Mixed reviews for Green Flag. Start Rescue is five on that top five breakdown cover.

Dependant on the make of car some manufacturers provide a discount cover. Mitsubishi is free for the first three years, then £29.99p a year from three to ten years. Don't know about any others.
No Sharon. The last time I called them out my Dad was around and he has been dead for 10 years.
Thanks SD - I've just gone with Start and saved myself a load of money. Now I`m going to phone the RAC and tell them to cancel the renewal. I expect they will undercut their price but it'll be too late.
I'm with the RAC because I get a good deal through my insurance. However I've used these people in the past and I'm happy to recommend them:
