A pick-up truck has just made its regular daily trip around my estate, totting for scrap metal. But his "call" could be anything....he could be asking people to "bring out their dead" for all it makes any audible sense !

I remember as a boy, Saturday night at about 6.30 pm a sporting paper was printed called the "Pink 'un"......cus it was printed on pink paper and an old man would saunter down the street shouting "Pinkeeeern! Pinkeeeern! We all knew what he was on about. ;-)

In North Shields in the 1950's the local rag and bone man did actually shout out, "Bring out your dead." Don't know if anybody avoided funeral costs this way.
