I know the NHS comes in for a lot of stick these days and in some cases may be warranted..but..
My husband has needed help for several long term conditions and shorter term problems are ongoing.
He had a procedure today and yesterday for different problems at 2 different hospitals.
The size of his notes these days are almost 10" thick. It was remarked upon today when the admissions nurse said she'd have to get a crane in to lift it..joking of course.
We made a point of telling her that we have no complaints for any treatment he has received in the last 20 years. No matter what anyone says the NHS is marvelous....
Just wanted to get that off my chest before I head to my bed.
I would not be posting on this site if not for two life saving ops on the NHS.
Got to say that. My wife who trained in 1973 is still nursing with them and standing over me with a massive hypo bless her and the rest of her collegues. :-)
It's nice to hear, Cupotee........but when you have a husband and granddaughter whose deaths were found, at inquests, to have been caused by lack of care and cleanliness in NHS hospitals it's difficult to agree.....
When my mum was ill and needed support like a hospital-type bed and a rising chair, they were provided within a couple of days. I don't know who did the organising or providing but they were there.
There were post-op problems which no one seemed to know how to resolve. My dad phoned the hospital only to be told that the consultants were off as it was a weekend so he should phone the GP, but of course the GP was off too!
Lots of good and bad in the NHS.
I take alot of calls (scotland) to the ward i work in..
Its not worth my job or registration to give advice over the phone- we care for inpatients- even district nurses call, care homes, ex patients- i always say GP, OOH service / nhs 24 or if emergency present at a&e! Its a rock & a hard place xx
I hope they implement what has been written about in newspapers recently with 7 days a week coverage for hospitals with senior doctors. I'm not expecting every doctor to work 7 days a week or anything like that, but there shouldn't be periods where they have skelton staff and just one exhausted doctor on call. People have babies or become ill at all hours.
I know there are some hospitals that do this already. It should be nationwide.
Clover i wonder if its england because there is a consultant on site every single day where I am... And overnight they are on call and many a time have turned up at 3-4am to review people.... As it should be i agree xx
Many consultants are working weekends and have been for some time in my experience.
4 weeks ago I saw my Dermatologist on a Sunday. It was a proper appointment made in the usual way.
I have also had a couple of procedures done at weekend.
