Tourists shouldn't be used as cannon fodder.
I think the holiday companies would be following advice from the foreign office.
Let's say the foreign office was aware of the danger.
They decide to keep tourists in Tunisia to make a stand against terrorism.
A week later more British tourists are killed in a terrorist attack.
What would be the reaction when the press and public found out about the stand the foreign office made ?
Outrage.
The Foreign Office has issued the following :-

Hans.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Although from a position where I have no idea of the intelligence information we've received, and apparently others haven't, it does sound like a nervous reaction and out of step with most other countries.

Are we abandoning our general position of not allowing terrorists to dictate what we do and how we live ? Or is it a wise precaution ? Time will tell, but I'd 'feel more comfortable' if it was a mass decision by multiple countries rather than a near unilateral retreat of just our citizens.
Old Geezer aren't the danes and irish pulling out too ?
Possibly. I knew the Irish were which is why it was "most other countries" and "near unilateral".
I think that UK tourists were by far the main ones going to Tunisia. Around 80% was a figure I heard mentioned.
Britain, Ireland, Denmark and Finland have advised about Tourists avoiding Tunisia :-

Hans.
I've never been in that situation, but I think I would carry on with my holiday. I can't remember a time when a follow-up terrorist attack has occurred in the same place.
Whatever the government says will be wrong. If they did nothing and there is another attack - just because it hasn't happened before doesn't mean it won't in Tunisia - there would be outrage. If tourists are advised to come home and there isn't an attack that will also cause condemnation. Tunisia is an easy target, I'm afraid.
T.Cook,Thompsons and First Choice are/were part of TUI. TUI has a standing in UK,Germany and another European country (I forget which).
Whilst evacuating UK tourists they are still flying Germans and the other country's tourists to Tunisia.
Common sense says pull out.....at least the Germans can hog all the sunbeds and no kids to scare by jumping in the pool.
some bomb in Cairo as well this morning.....
They had no choice, after the Government changed their advice.

Its a sad situation but the terrorists have achieved exactly what they set out to achieve, and that is why terrorism nearly always works.

If it were possible for British tourists to make their own mind up, and they stayed, and were killed in subsequent attacks, then it would be their own fault.

But they can't get back without the airlines and that is what the holiday companies do...fly people to exotic places and bring them back again.
I heard a Minister being interviewed on the radio this morning, and despite all that has gone on, he still said that he would take his kids to Tunisia on holiday !

Can I quote a Brit, on the BBC News website that said ::

"[I'm] very, very disappointed. When I left England on Wednesday there were no problems whatsoever... It's been made quite clear to us that if we don't leave on these flights we could be stuck here until October."

On Wednesday, there were no problems whatsoever ?

So what happened on the 26th June then ?

Numbskulls, all of them.
//On Wednesday, there were no problems whatsoever ?

that's probably relative - much in the same way that by the 25th July 2005, Ken Livingstone was saying there was no problems in London.
If there was a further attack they would be absolutely condemned for ignoring Foreign Office advice, travel insurance could be a big issue too.

They must have had some kind of information.

Don't think they're giving in to anyone, just protecting UK Citizens by following FO advice!
