Funniest woman I ever saw !
Such a dry wit, wonderful lady, RIP.
Not seen or heard her mentioned on TV since the late 70's but not the kind of personality you could forget. Unique. RIP.
I remember her in some sitcom with Donald Sinden. Think he was her butler but I can't recall the name of the sitcom.
Was she in The Golden Girls? I think I remember reading she lived in a suite of rooms in a posh hotel while in London. That's style.
She was in an American comedy recently - 30 rock I think

She was a legend.

The last time I saw her was when she played Alex Baldwin's mother in '30 Rock'.

A truly hilarious woman.
Two's company with Donald Sinden....rip

I know where your confusion comes from.

You're thinking of Bea Arthur from 'The Golden Girls':

They look alike! Also, Bea Arthur has a similarly gravelly voice and both were big Broadway stars in the 50s.

But this is Elaine Stritch:

She was a massive gay icon. Something she alludes to in a throwaway line in the Jennifer Lopez / Jane Fonda movie 'Monster-in-Law'.

She plays Fonda's crotchety old mother, and whilst attending her grandson's wedding, she spends one scene chewing her out for being a bad mother.

At the end of the scene, a gay friend of Jennifer Lopez's character whispers to her, "I think you're fabulous".

"Of course you do", she growls back.
I loved her in the film Monster in law. She was such a funny woman. RIP Elaine.
Used to enjoy watching her - such a funny lady - RIP

Great Elaine Stritch story…lifted from the Guardian's obit this morning:

George Furth, who wrote the story and spoken dialogue for the musical 'Company', once witnessed an inebriated Stritch asking a bartender, "Just give me a bottle of vodka and a floorplan,"

Yep...what I would've given to spend an evening drinking with her in the West End.

They don't make 'em like that any more.
