Things that when you heard about them you said:

That will never work, that will never take off.

1) Plastic car bumpers.
2) Milk in a cardboard box

When a calculator first became available to joe public, we were never permitted to take them into school, we had to use our brains to work things out!

I thought they were a gimmick for geeky people.
One thing I was correct about was 'edible underwear'- anyone else remember that?

I suppose when edible underwear was launched in 1975 the sex angle went over my head- I assumed it was to save you having to wash them after you'd worn them.
Mobile phones. They were just for show off yuppies..

Both still seem like stupid ideas to me!
Text messages are brilliant.
plastic bumpers are rubbish, exactly as I predicted. Bend one and it costs zillions to repair. The whole idea of original metal bumbers was that you didn't have to repair the whole car.
I remember when we all had 'finger' indicators on cars, and then the flashing indicators were brought in. There was an awful fuss - people said we wouldn't be able to see them when the sun was out. That must be in the 50's I would think.
I thought finger indicators were a waste of time, what's wrong with sticking your arm out?

jno, i damaged the seal below the doors on one side of my car on a stupid kerb in an underground car park in france. when i looked at it, i realised that the seal and wings and side panels were all one piece - practically had to remove the side of the car to repair......and you don't want to know how much that cost.
