Now I know that, inexplicably lots of people watch them, but surely the story lines are getting ever more desparate in their batttle for the sub 85 IQ viewers. Is it time to move them after the watershed? No other program with the content of modern soaps would get on before 9pm. I haven't actualy watched an episode for over 20 years but I've seen plenty of trailers and the papers report it as if it's news. If I switch one on by accident It's like getting in a bath that's too hot and I desparately reach for the remote! Anyway I have nevr accidentally happenned upon something nice happenning so are they all doom and gloom? Why do people watch this drivel?

In a recent IQ test I scored 159 (pretty meaningless, except inasfar as I can do IQ tests) yet I watch Corrie.
Corrie is much more amusing, the classic Hilda and Stan lipstick gag is hilarious
Luv it Luv it.
Stan and Hilda away for their anniversary in a hotel. Hilda kisses STan on the lips.
Stan licks his lips and says "what does that there lipstick taste of?" She gives him a saucy look and says "WOMAN Stanley, WOMAN......

Indeed a classic shiz.

Question Author
sherrard, since when have most degrees or indeed the retention of any knowledge been any indication of intelligence? There's about 10 degrees that require intelligence, the rest, my dog could obtain, what's your degree in?

Jemisa, I explained in my question why I feel qualified to comment, why don't you get someone to read it to you?
Yes PL its a bad topic and they should clear it up as soon as poss,
But I hear they're going to drag it on for weeks. Now thats cruel all round.

I've been 'affected' by every episode this week, but not in the way that they're hoping.

Which papers are you reading where the soaps are reprted as news?
... and the midwife's, "oh, must have been a mistake at the horsepiddle" ... so errm, we'll just let that go and not bother to ask any more awkward questions then?

You forgot...

nevr
I think nevr was a typo ummmm.
I have to laugh when when a poster ridicules others, with a bollock filled thread opener.
ha ha ha

I forgot to laugh.
I loved it when Annie Walker was running the Rovers and Bet Lynch walked in with a
low-cut dress only to be told she had it on back to front. Corrie beats all the soaps
hands down for humour.
When Raquel used a French phrase which she was told was a compliment, and asked Ken Barlow if he would like to sleep with here.
Unfotrunately I don't wach any soaps.
However,I don't deny persons (of whatever IQ) the right to watch them,I am afraid they are here to stay.
As far as a watershed goes, parents have only to consult TV guides(online or magazines) and restrict their childrens viewing(of all programmes, not just soaps).
So no,soaps are not getting out of hand,it's all TV that needs reforming, but that is something we are never going to get.
Here is an ON/OFF switch, why not take advantage of it?
I have not seen a whole episode of ANY soap EVER. The last snippet I do recall from decades ago was from Coronation Street and set in a drapery shop. Arthur Lowe, who went on to fame in Dad's Army, was the manager and he had a young woman assistant. I discovered recently to my horror that the latter is still IN the wretched programme!
I agree that the popularity of these things is inexplicable and fail utterly to grasp why anybody who appears in one is, by definition, newsworthy (in tabloids) and a "celebrity".
don't watch them any more...prefer to watch documentaries etc or listen to music know a lot of people who watch avidly...what I don't get is the way they seem to talk about the characters as real people gail said this....Kat did that and don't you think Phil was out of order yesterday its like they are discussing the lives of friends....odd very odd I thought it was only children who thought tv characters were real....
Rowen : "What I don't get is the way they seem to talk about the characters as real people gail said this....Kat did that and don't you think Phil was out of order"

lol @ this, I agree. Check out the headlines in newspapers when reporting on the actor or actress..they always say their characters name. "Phil Mitchell caught speeding" for example.
