Whichever way you look at...four months for a hit and run seems astonishingly lenient. Sure he didn't mean to kill the girl - but still...it doesn't seem right.
you would think that an asylum seeker would abide by the laws of the country until at the very least a decision had been made about his application

the accident happened in 2003 he was due to be deported but won the right to stay in the UK in December 2009 after arguing that, because he now had two children since being freed from prison
Lawyers for the Border Agency asked for Ibrahim to be deported on the grounds that the judge who originally allowed Ibrahim leave to remain on the basis of his right to a family life did so incorrectly.

Although he now has two children, there was little evidence to suggest he was living at the same address so could not claim a right to family life, it was argued.

The judges were also told of Ibrahim's convictions, including a further incident of driving while disqualified in 2006, harassment and possession of drugs.
My god, what more evidence do we want. The children would soon settle down in a different country. I have to say this, my husband would have been waiting outside the prison and there would be no question about what would happen to him. I know my husband would then have been in prison probably for several years, because it would have been premeditated, but his blind rage would have been such that he would not have cared.
A sad and tragic case. The asylum seeker is blatantly taking the mick, and yes neil42 he will sleep at night because pond life like this have no sense of feeling sorry or regret for killing a child of the country that was prepared to at least give him a chance of a better life. To say it was not premeditated is rubbish,by driving while disqualified and leaving his victim under his car demonstrates just the sort of immigrant we can manage without.
deporting him is hardly a decent punishment...he will just go there an get on with his life...so why the big uproar? her father should have focussed on having him suitably punished, not about deportation...4 months is outrageous.
sure i'd prefer it if he wasnt in this country...but i'd prefer him in a british prison much more...im have heard most prisoners are not very nice to crims that hurt children...
Blame the stooopod Brit woman who gave him 2 kids & the right to remain in the country.

I think that the laws that cover these kinds of things need revising urgently.

If you get behind the wheel of a car, knowing that you are legally banned from driving, this crime should automatically carry a custodial sentence as it is abundantly clear that you have no regard for the law or the safety of others.

If you injure or kill another person whilst driving illegally, then a life sentence should be an option for the Judge, as it is for manslaughter and murder cases.

Currently, the law on driving offences such as the one that is the subject of this question, is totally inappropriate. I'm sick of reading about people who have got behind the wheel of a car, knowing they were banned and who have subsequently killed one or more persons. I'm even more sick of reading about the pathetically inadequate sentences that are handed down for such offences.

With regards to Mr Ibrahim, as far as I'm concerned, his nationality and deportation are not the issue. What people should be jumping up and down about is that fact that he killed another person with his car whilst disqualified from driving.

He should be locked up for manslaughter.

What he actually got was four months for driving while disqualified and failing to stop after an accident... it's an absolute disgrace.

Hi Eddie - “Yet again Birdie...”

“Yet again...”..., I'm sorry? This is the first comment I've made on this thread and on this issue.

“Death by dangerous driving does carry a possible life sentence.” - No it doesn't. The maximum sentence is 14 years on indictment.

“Driving with no insurance or while disqualified is not dangerous driving” - I never said that it was.

I think you've missed the point of my post. I was saying that the laws on driving offences needs to be reviewed.
he has obviously learnt his lesson and is very grateful for his lenient sentence

##### further incident of driving while disqualified in 2006,#####

maybe not
Again in this mornings news there the headlines a" sickening day for justice." So come on Mr Cameron change the law as promised, rid the country of pieces of sh_te like mohammed ibrahim, or face an early return to the back benches, because this one wont go away.
Cameron is all talk. True justice is a rare commodity in this country. The rights of victims have a low priority. Barristers can spend hours discussing the case with the criminal but not with the victim or witnesses that was left to the police. W I was one of several witnesses in a fraud case but we were never asked relevant questions . Our answers had to be restricted to yes no answers. Had we been questioned in advance of the case our barrister would have more facts to go on. The result the fraudster was found not guilty.
modeller you try and get anyone in authority to give you a yes or no answer
This is all about the father of the dead girl whipping up a media storm

He tried and failed to get this man convicted for a serious driving offence 7 years ago.

Now he's trying to use this man's immigration status to exact revenge because he couldn't in court.

You can have sympathy for his feelings but the road accident is entirely irrelevant to his immigration status

I would point out that apparently this guy has drug and burglary convictions that are a lot more relevant to the case.

They just don't tug the heatstrings of the impressionable Express readers like a dead girl
This all boils down to the fact we don't get rid of illegal immigrants, and immigrants legal or otherwise should be kicked out of this country when they commit a crime. The other piece of nonsense if anyone has a child in this country they automatically are allowed to stay and of course they all claim their human rights the moment they are charged with any crime.
Our governments left and right haven't the guts to do anything about it. Cameron has failed to honour any of his promises on human rights and his dealings with the EU.
I know there are difficulties but the will isn't there to even try.
