I agree Doc, the world would be a far happier place if people could stop leaning on this crutch and learn to stand on their own two feet.

God fearing!!! I'm more afraid of the fairies at the bottom of my garden :-)
Wear a reindeer sweater, that'll put people off having sex with you, that'll solve the problem.
I don't think anyone is "Catholic bashing", ummmm.

The posts seem to be sympathetic to Catholics, and the way they have been, and dtill are, manipulated by their leader.
"Wear a reindeer sweater, that'll put people off having sex with you ..."

But doesn't a humorous sweater make one appear cute and endearing?

I thought guys liked that !
I agree, JJ.
So ... job lots of reindeer sweaters then, Boxy ?

LOL

doc........I understand that, but the number of Catholics world wide is rising.........more people are turning to Catholicism.

Could be something in it?

doc....that is a very good point.
One commenter below the article has pointed out that this 'change' is mentioned on a book of an exclusive interview with the Pope. Therefore-it's not an official change of stance by the Church,is it?
Also-if his remarks are confined to the use of condoms by gay men-what the hell happens regarding other sexually transmitted diseases? AIDS certainly is not the only one.
Pasta, I didn't think his remarks were confined to gay men. The article also mentions sex within marriage where one partner is infected.

Surely if his word is considered infallible, which it is, having made this declaration, that must become the church's official stance? Yes? No?
Yes

I would have thought so too, ummmm.
The Pope is infallible.

Even when His Holiness says something that is the opposite of what He said before ...

He was right both times!

He's like Peter Mandelson.
It is a delightfully subtle Jesuitical compromise. Who now can say that the Church doesn't listen to its flock.
Hi Doc xxx

Naomi.....I'm not convinced that all Catholic priests agreed with the Churches stance anyway. I think there's a big sigh of relief going through the Catholic church at the moment.
I find it a bit confusing,as it is described in one paragraph as 'the Popes ruling',and in another as an 'announcement'-all made public in a book published by the Vatican. And the book itself seems to be based on an exclusive interview. I don't know what the normal protocol is for these changes-but I would have assumed there would be more in the way of an official document.
What do I know....I am a 'lapsed' Catholic of 40+years......
The Pope is only considered to be infallible when making pronouncements 'ex cathedra' on matters of faith.
