Under no circumstances whatsoever. The unions were unable to use their power under Labour. They have no chance under a non-Labour gov't. This cancer must be quashed urgently before we return to the dark days iof the 70s. If we have any chance of economic recovery the Unions need teaching a lesson quickly before the rest of the world looks on in disgust and stops trading with us altogether.
Public sector workers who chose to strike will quickly use up any last reserves of public sympathy...it would be a bad move

so are you suggesting the british workers should just roll over accept mass redundancies this giving rise to mass unemployment?not to mention the cuts to the less well off and disabled people...i think it is time the british people stood together and let the ''leaders'' of this country know what they think..
If the money simply isn't there to give to them stoke....what else do you suggest?
what count-a-strong said ;)
exactly b00
No, I'm suggesting that they should find more creative ways of finding job security than holding the country to random. I'd hoped that the days of people acting like sheep after being stirred up by short sighted militants had disappeared but apparently not.
agree with No, not worth it, but I fear a another Winter of Discontent maybe in the making?
random? ransom of course.

hi boo...but what will everyone do when there are not enough police to deal with crime.what when your local fire station closes down? when the army is being scaled down and our troops are being earmarked for redundancy even as they are fighting in afghanistan that is the comtempt this govt shows for its citizens...dont let them kid you there IS enough money in the kitty..if the fat cats cut their cloth accordingly
Having personally met numerous career civil servants during my working life, I would suggest their number could be reduced by 25% without any noticeable detriment to public services.
When I was at college it was at the time of the car manufacture strikes. None of us were well off. One girl's dad was a car worker in the midlands and from day to day when the strikes were on she wasn't sure if she could stay at college because her family had NO money.
If you look at the businesses where unions have become powerful and brought members out on strike...cars, steel, shipping you name it, striking hasn't worked and the industries have failed faster because of it.
thats how rover fell, the strikes had cripple them so badly that they had no money for new development. greedy greedy unions.
Can see your point stoke, and hello back by the way :-)

Do we have any idea how much salary the union bosses are on by the way?

the policies of this govt are leading us into another recession,a lot of businesses were lucky to survive the last 1... mass redundancies=mass unemployment=less money to spend=recession wait until vat goes up to 20% on jan 4th everything you buy will be dearer people will not be able to survive if people do not stand up to this govt now this country will be in ruin by the middle of next year...
I, like a lot of others remember only too well , The Miners taking on the Government of the day, the fierceness of the picket lines, even now families are split by it, and for what?
Mrs T still annihilated the pits both up here and in Nottingham and surrounding areas, then she went for the Shipyards...sorry but striking didn't help in either case
If the unions invoke mass strikes the country will be buggered by Chrismas, never mind next year.
Could you please give us the reasons why you believe that the Gov'ts policies will lead us (back) into recession?
This is what happens when you vote Conservative/Coalition Government into Power.
Many criticised the Labour Govt but we are all going to suffer more under the present Govt than we did previously.
There are good and bad Unions and the one and only thing Margaret Thatcher did was to put a spoke into the bad ones.
I don't think Strikes will be the Answer however, but I will feel sorry for all those losing their Jobs as a result of the cuts.
the problems with this country are caused by the "spend spend spend" labour government. we now have to pay for their boom and bust.
Nevermind stoke, found some info myself...granted its from The Sun, but still...
