"You have to pay high wages to get the right people"

This refrain is often heard on these forums whilst some members defend the ridiculous wages paid to various high-earners. In the US, apparently £144K/year will get you a senior-level finance fraud investigator with excellent porn-surfing skills.

How is the money this group was on justified? I could have saved them £100K/year (if not more!)...

It's not right but I guess if competitors are paying that sort of money, they have to too. Think of their income tax deductions, though!
The people arguing for high pay are the first ones to claim their differential has been eroded, so guess why they argue for ever higher pay.....

Plus, the old game, you put me on your remuneration committee and I'll vote for your rise and you come on my remuneration committee...........
You also have to pay high wages TO the right people.
