Shannon Mathews.

Starting to get the impression that some one has set this whole thing up.
It sounds like some kind of bizarre plot to get media attention or money or both.
If I didn't think any mother would put her child through a kidnap I would inclined to think she knew where she was all the time.

Ive always said there was something funny going on from the start.....her appearance on television pleaing for her daughter didnt do it for me....id be a mumbling wreck.....summit not quite right there definately.I dont want to believe it as what mother would do that to there child??
I have no idea how I'd act if my child was kidnapped so I didnt' have any suspicions of her. But it's starting to seem very very unpleasant, isn't it
Karen Matthews has also been charge with child neglect. I wonder what this charge specifically relates to i.e. Shannon or her other children. Pure speculation i know, but perhaps it is because she knew where she was but made no effort to ensure she was well (not likely though if it was planned).

The costs of the police hunt have been stated as around 1 million.

Words fail me about this whole case.
^^ I mean not likely she would have checked if Shannon was okay if the "kidnap" was planned. She may have given herself away.

If she is guilty I sincerely hope all the vitriol she deserves is poured upon her.
This whole case smacks of trying to obtain money by fraudulent means, using a poor child as the pawn. The last I read, Shannon's mother'd admitted that she knew where her daughter was all along, but found herself unable to back out of the plan once the ball was rolling. It's a very distasteful case, and I hope the poor child is either placed with her real father once this's over, or that she goes to someone who can show the child genuine love and care.
ITV news have just said that the Madeleine Mccann fund was approached by folks claiming to be part of the Matthews family, asking for money. The attitude seemed to be "you've got money, we aint, give us some"
I just think it's awful and if her mother knew where she was all the time, then that's disgraceful. What they have put that poor 9 yr old girl through is horrendous. Does anyone think they told her what they were doing or did she know she was being kidnapped all along.

And how disgusting to go to the McCann family asking for money from the Madeleine fund to help them. Haven't their family been through enough, it's nearly a year since their daughter dissappeared, does anyone really think she is still alive.

Sometimes it makes me ashamed to be British, the way some of our fellow countrymen carry on.
I feel disgusted by the McCann fund to refuse any of the money. They did not know it was a potential hoax but refused to support a clearly poorer family through their time. Usually if you go through a pain like that, you try to share your experience, support and cousel with others.

Many charitable organisations receive donations which are made by people for who the charity is close at heart. They return the favour they have been given, not hoard everything.

I mostly feel very sorry for Shannon and hope she can move on in her life in a loving, caring environment without hinderance or stigma over the sordid situation. Sordid whatever happened.
B00 and Ice Maiden, You're absolutely right. Was this whole thing a get rich quick scheme? I think so.
Jedimistress, the method they took to atempt to obtain money from the McCanns was, according to the tabloids, to turn up on the McCann's doorstep and ask for cash.

If it had been asked for the proper means who knows what their answer might have been. If they were doorstepped in this manner then its hardly surprising they said no.
Terrible to think that her own mother was involved isn't it naomi?

I have to say I've been agog with the case since it started, each day adds a new twist to the whole sorry state. It'd make a fantastic film!
B00, maybe they thought of selling the film rights for cash too?
The McCaans couldn`t have given them any money as they used up most of their fund doing their "world tour", and anything left in the kitty paid off their mortgage arrears

As for Karen Matthews and the rest of her disfunctional family, the only way they can make money now is from royalties of their new movie...The Dewsbury Hillbillies
Yes, it is B00. The whole thing defies belief.
Probably right there Meglet!

Ya know, I'm not sure how anybody else feels, but whenever I saw Shannon's mum and family pleading for her return I had to stamp down the raging snob in me by telling myself that it was terrible to think bad of the way they looked/spoke etc and that they just looked plain scuzzy.

Now i don't feel so bad thinking those thoughts!
i read that they got the idea from the tv program shameless , and the police are reviewing the tapes.
You have to feel sorry for the locals who spent all their dole money on cans of beer to celebrate when Shannon was found

I guess they`ll just have to do the same with this months giro to drown their sorrows after finding out they`ve all been taken for a ride
Give over Elvis, you think they'd spend all their hard earned dole money on booze?

We all know they robbed their local Thresher store.
lol @ Boos "raging snob in me"

Isn`t that what most people thought?..I know I did
Well yes, quite possibly, but I was too scared to say it out loud here.

wuss? me? You betcha!
