Well, remove the glass ceiling and allow women to earn the same as men for doing the same jobs and fulfil their potential as earners and you'll be a long way towards achieving that situation.

Traditionally (and yes, there are lots of exceptions to this), the men were usually the ones with the finances and the owners of the property, therefore it was entirely natural that they would 'lose out' in the event of a divorce.

What is rarely taken into account in an old fashioned 'wife stays home' is how much it would have cost a man had he had to pay for the jobs his wife did for free; cook, childcarer, housekeeper etc, so you could equally argue that the man had very much the better side of the deal during the marriage.

of course not considering the jobs men do for free; diy, gardening, motor mechanics, getting rid of nasty insects, counciller, lifting heavy stuff, financer of pointlessly large collections of clothes/shoes, etc etc etc

Oooh! Sensitive!

Well it would appear that the only time a bloke will do the chores Booldawg has listed would be to get away from his wife ;o)

You can bet your bottom dollar that a prostitute earns more money than a carpenter/mechanic any day..oh yes, & I have always bought my own shoes!

no doubt male 'escorts' get roughly the same pay...

oh and well done on the shoes thing pippa. Its a real step forward for modern-day feminism ;-)

Oh sorry ~ didn't know you were so serious..and feminism really doesn't interest me so much!

I have always been able to look after myself and that's all that matters ;o)

of course I'm only joking. I'm fortunate enough to be in a realtionship where we both go to work and both get equal shares to all household tasks, however mundane

Glad to hear it :o)

Same here..I am proud to say that I can put up a shelf as brilliantly as I can make a lasagne (& that's good).

Hubby does the ironing just as well as he makes a stew..very well indeed!

we're all modern men now y'know. If your screen name is an indication to your year of birth then its the same as mine. The 80s liberated us, i was baking cakes with my mum at the age 8. Shame my dad was so bad at DIY I followed in his bodging footsteps though.

Hmmm don't know about that ~ my ex husband is the same age & totally useless at everything..bake a cake? jeez he couldn't even boil an egg!

You will be pleased to know that my son was taught to cook at a very early age..I wanted him to be self sufficient, and not end up marrying a woman just so he would have his meals cooked & clothes washed for him.

Sorry to hijack the thread bernie6969 I hope others have some thoughts for you!

If the women get the kids, then it should be in their favour. financially.
I must have had the wrong solicitor...i didnt manage to keep anything because id stupidly married someone with more savvy than me..lets see i got the kid and the cat and he took everything that was worth anything and sold the house under me..put me off doing it again i can tell you
