I quoted a Jimmy Kimmel quote - for the quote itself, not the person who posted it.  I thought it captured the situation perfectly: Just because you think Alfred is too old to take care of the Batcave, you don't replace him with the Joker.

I didn't even need to say who'd said it, but I did. In response, Roy posted a video of Jimmy Kimmel in blackface from the nineties.  I won't share the video, but here's the news when it was "surfaced" back in 2020:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-53151764

Rather than get into that deflection, I gave my own quote instead - not as good as Kimmel's, because the batcave was an important element of his quote. For the record, I've never done blackface but I have done some stupid things in my past and no doubt will again ...

//Out of a population of 330-odd million, wouldn't you think they could sort out a couple of candidates who aren't quite as controversial? //

It was reported that Lyndon B Johnson said of Gerald Ford," He is so dumb he couldn't fart and chew gum at the same time!".

You would think ,what with ,all these Ivy League colleges one would have that on the curriculum. I suppose the nearest President to achieve it was Trump but he still can't chew gum simultaneously.😂

Michelle and Hillary will never be President for the same reason.

President Barrack Obama.

Hillary Clinton's best shot was in 2008 and Obama used an internet and grassroots campaign to take that away from her.  Then she elevated Trump to a 'serious contender' during the primaries  thinking he'd be easiest to beat in the general election.  Bernie Sanders would have won that election, but it was Hilary's Turn.

Michelle Obama won't get elected because the GOP will use her surname to whip the right into a frenzy and get them frothing at the teeth to miss work and stand in line to cast their votes.  The memes and cartoons will basically be Barrack pulling her puppet strings or a hand up her keister.

Like a lot of people, I voted for Biden to get Trump out. But I won't vote for him again. If he's the nominee, I don't think he's going to have a chance against anyone who isn't Trump.

Thank you very much the editorial team.

Nice try lol

It's going to be Biden v Trump again unless the Almighty or the courts intervene 😄

There is another option I wouldn't discount.

I can't believe anyone thinks this man is fit to be the next US President.

Biden is not fit to be President, but neither is Trump.

The problem for any party in any democratic country, is that their voters are extremely conservative - they like what they know, and they see change as weakness.

That's the reason why both parties are fielding candidates who, by any reasonable measure, are manifestly unfit - because not only are they known quantities, they both have a proven success record.

That is enough reason for the party not to dare changing them this close to the election, and the reason why the electorate will vote for them.

I don't think Rishi Sunak or Keir Starmer are fit to be UK Prime Minister either, but what alterntives are we being offered?  Hope the USA make better choices.

maggiebee - // I don't think Rishi Sunak or Keir Starmer are fit to be UK Prime Minister either, but what alterntives are we being offered?  Hope the USA make better choices. //

Exactly illustrating my point.

Both Labour and Conservatives are terrified of changing horses mid-stream, although it is custom and practice that the losing leader will resign after the election - depending on a majority win.

We are now faced with the same problem as the US - not voting for the leader we like, but for the leader we dislike the least, and there is no honour in winning an election on that basis.

But that won't stop the winner from crowing until the next time.

"Both Labour and Conservatives are terrified of changing horses mid-stream"

The Conservatives have done precisely that once in 2016, once in 2019 and twice in 2022.
Labour did it the last time they were in power in 2017.

we know the succession: the then vice president becomes pres - no not  acting  president ( case from 1865)

what about after the election? - we know the answer, the vice president....

Question Author

That's nonsense from andy and maggie.

Trump is fit to be President and Sunak and Starmer are fit to be Prime Minister.

Biden shows time and time again he is not fit to be President.

Then we will have to agree to differ.

I would not let Mr Trump walk my dog around the block if I had one.

Plainly Trump is not fit to be POTUS. Biden's age concerns me but more for his sake.

I can't see why people think Sunak and Starmer are so awful. Or even if they are how it would be possible to avoid them

Question Author

You may not like him but he's fit to do it and he's done it before.

roy - // You may not like him but he's fit to do it and he's done it before. //

If that is directed to me - my personal feelings are not the motivation for my view of Mr Trump.

Whether I like him or not, he is not a fit person to hold any office, and the idea that he will again be President should be a matter of concern for anyone and everyone.

Question Author

The man in charge should be a concern for everyone.

Talks to dead people

Constantly falls over

Often can't string a sentence together

Deliberately swarming America with millions of migrants

Has the FBI working overtime to keep a lid on things

He's also  a creepy sleepy child botherer. (you only have to look at the childrens reactions)

The US way of picking politicians is disastrous. Until they find a way to help fund the running of younger capable people they will still have geriatrics in the White House.

//I would not let Mr Trump walk my dog around the block if I had one.//

Just as well you don't walk Biden's dog around the block.

Just like his owner he is unpredictable and out of control
