I learnt to drive in one, but never owned one. Like a lot of things, am sure it will make a comeback some day in a new form like the Beetle, Bug, Capri, Mustang or suchlike...
We still have one. We have leased two over the last five years and have decided to buy it at the end of the term. The garage keeps offering us other dearer cars in exchange for the same monthly fee. If they are stopping production Why?
I had one (not the model shown!) nearly 20 yrs ago and had it for about 6 yrs.
It suited me quite well as I'm only little, but it might have been too small for some.
I did indeed - a 1989 F reg Ford Fiesta S. I don’t know what the ‘S’ stood for, but it came with a small sporty steering wheel. I was 18 so could not afford an XR2 (wouldn’t have been able to afford the insurance either) and it was my first grown up purchase; I used it for 3 years at university…and got a lot of kudos for having a car, but what people didn’t see was that I was working all the hours Safeways could offer me just to keep up the payments to my Dad.
I bought a brand new Puma in 1997. Everyone said it was based on the Fiesta (Zetec engine etc) but it didn't feel like a Fiesta. I loved that car. I had the 1.7 and it lasted me 14 years with ever breaking down. I still see the odd one about but thanks to Khan, they will fail the ULEZ.
Thanks for all the posts. I seem to have brought back memories for many people here ;-)
I've had a few Fords over the years. They've generally been cheap to buy (secondhand), cheap to insure and cheap to buy replacement parts for. They've never seemed really 'special' though, in the way that, say, my Citroen BX (or even my lovely little Proton) did.
Ford did not make an Anglia Convertible, tilly. I believe a mob called Crayford Conversions may have done a small number (my mate had a Cortina Convertible done by them). Yours would have been a very, very rare animal.
