"We recognise that this guide has its origin in English, the language of a colonising nation."

Avoid male/female, and instead use ASAB/AFAM (assigned female/male at birth).

Avoid Mankind as it has an inherent association with maleness.

Avoid Black Market to avoid negative connotations.

Avoid Ethnic Minority and instead use Minority Ethnic.

And so on....

I'll point out, before anybody else inevitably does, that Oxfam states it's not prescriptive...but that's not really the point.

BTW, as it's fashionable to be offended now, can I be offended if anybody refers to me as Cis-male rather than just male?

I'm offended by 'cis-male'. Do not label me
I'm surprised they get any money after the Haiti scandal.
Oxfam have always been like this, I never give money to them as too much is taken out in 'Admin'.

Personally I support local charities or if giving more global the Sally Ann is much better.

I Don't support them... Tend to give to MSF, and indirectly helping abroad via charities that help care for the working animals in undeveloped countries. In a major disaster situation maybe also the red cross, but as it all gets pooled in the DEF Oxfam take a chunk anyway.
My thoughts are that I will no longer be taking donations into the Oxfam shop, nor browsing for books ( my usual purchases)
I'm biased.

I work for Oxfam and have done so for 15+ years. I am a volunteer and don't get paid. I love working in our shop and am going there when I go out.

Yes- Oxfam has its problems. It is a big organisation and they come up with some strange ideas. I moan constantly about the way they work.

However, it is a good source of old books and music. We sell online and we have some really 'unusual' books for sale.

Don't judge the entire charity and all the volunteers based on what you have read in the press.

Better go ...
I think the judgement is of how the charity is run, how quick it is to jump on the latest 'social bandwagon' not the genuine people at the coalesce who are probably mostly unaware of what is going on at the top.
Coalface.... I corrected it twice it still changed it back
Why does the norm need a label? Cis Male my April.
"Don't judge the entire charity and all the volunteers based on what you have read in the press."

dont think people are...but for as long as i can remember Oxfam have always had a reputation as being leftie agendas driven and one of if not the lowest amount per pound donated actually going to the causes it collects for.
This woke drivel ideological drivel its now promoting sums them up really...I'm definitely blacklisting them in this house and will find a local one to put on the whitelist....
well they cd call you sissy, in my opinion

ya wanna look at their admin costs - anything over 10% go elsewhere
Two charities I've subscribed to for a number of years - The National Trust and English Heritage - are rapidly going the same way - hence my subscriptions are no more.
Another organisation's management turn out to be a bunch of tissputs then. Just highlights the state of the nation and a vocal minority of woke that gains control in many areas. How; only God knows.
//Don't judge the entire charity and all the volunteers based on what you have read in the press.//

Indeed not. Read the entire 92 pages of inane drivel first hand:

Sorry wolfie. Good on you for volunteering your time. Their shops may be agreeable but the organisation's philosophy has never been very sound.
I've returned from Oxfam.

Oxfam as an organisation is badly run by people who seem to have no retail experience. But I think that they do, overall, more good than harm.
Question Author
How can it possibly run to 92 pages?
Obviously a lot they want changed, DD.
I stopped giving any money to Oxfam many years ago. I'm glad I did. I prefer to support charities where everything I give goes to those in need.
Thus sort of nonsense is not helpful to the image of the charity.

If they actually pay idiots to create this sort of pointless garbage, they'd be better keeping it really quiet.
Me too jourdain. My local hospice is my priority.
