Nothing on low wages then.
so as i said at the beginning many work but get benefits. Perhaps they are in low paid jobs but work part time. so need a little bit extra to make ends meet.
If you want to talk about low wages lead the way.
i have already pointed that out. many may be on low wages, but people like those train drivers i mentioned are on good money.
push comes to shove one can always do with more money. Low paid workers are often those who work in hospitality as i said. Pay them more fine, then see them being let go because the business can't afford the increase to wages also the massive increases in business rates, etc
// Nothing on low wages then. //

Blair's introduction of the minimum wage, caused a seismic shift in the pay structures of companies across the UK.

It was Blair's brainchild. Commendable and good intentioned. However can I be forgiven for thinking, from it spawned 'zero hour' contracts?
it may well have done zebu.
Emmie, Yes, of course the sick and the elderly and those in need must be cared for, but the point is there is something very wrong indeed with a system that allows people to CHOOSE not to work simply because they don't want to - your relative's ex-husband for example.
Nothing LJ has said there that I haven't said before so obviously I agree with him.

Agree with you too Naoimi, the system is broke but Blue Labour wont fix it will they?

IMHO the only two real Tories are Braverman and Badenhoch. There are a couple of others but far overidden by the CINO's.
i have no idea why he gave up, he is 50 ish.... but he paid her not one penny thereafter,
//Agree with you too Naoimi, the system is broke but Blue Labour wont fix it will they? //

No they won't because as I said at the beginning of the thread, they're trying too hard to be everything to everyone.
wait and see what happens on the 17th.......
I agree to a degree Naomi, but I also think too many of the CINO's also believe they are doing right by not tackling it. The liberals need removing from the Party. At present I am a man without a Party-again.
Wonder if DeSantis has a UK relative?

Thats what we need here.
i still believe in the Tories, for all their faults, of which we know there are lots, there is no credible alternative.
// At present I am a man without a Party-again. //

Ignoring the beard and hairy chest .... me too in many ways - I can't say I would vote now with any degree of confidence - although as emmie indicates the alternative is even less viable.
the Lib Dems are just bags of wind, so you can discount them. Labour aren't up to the job of making tough decisions on the economy particularly.
with Rishi as a former chancellor and now PM and Jeremy Hunt as the new Chancellor may pull the rabbit out of the hat on the 17th. we should stay by and wait, what could be a new direction, at least that's what i hope for.
// he gave up //

There is nothing wrong about any individual choosing not to work. Surely that is their perogative.

What is wrong is a system that rewards those (able bodied) that choose not to work, and allowed to make a career out of it.

Understandably there are some able bodied individuals who do become unemployable. It might be the resentment of many that public taxes are supporting these people. However we must also be seen to be a caring nation too.
he folded a lucrative business and simply refused to work again.
