The British public have voted, so why the delay ?
Is it:
1. May's heart isn't in it and will be gone by the next election. Leaving someone else to tidy up the mess
2. An admission that our Trade Negotiators are useless and 3 years time is beyond them, and they need 2 extra years to catch up.
3. She is too busy trying to save her own neck than concentrate on what is best best for the country.
4. May is the wrong person at the wrong time to be PM.
5. We are all f******ed

20 billion is a lot , but a lot less than the cost of HS2 (I've yet to meet anyone who wants that) so I can accept it. I can't accept 'free movement' for another 5 years. Far too soft by hundreds of miles.
There will now begin movements against the government's approach - what a mess she has created. I really do try to believe that the Govt. wishes to deliver Brexit ( a complete separation) but I can no longer go along with their approach. So, who will deliver the people's wish? I'll vote UKIP next time. (Assuming they still exist)
What's two or three years extra to get out of 40 years of EU domination.
When you put it like that Davemano.....it seems reasonable, but allowing unfettered immigration is not. However, out at all costs, prevails. Unhappily, the OP is probably correct.
Jourdain - the immigration issue will balance itself if Eddie is right, he keeps telling us about the tens of thousands of people leaving the UK.
de ja vue all over again. lol
If you are going to speak Froggy at least get it right. It's déjà vu.

Yours kindly
Inspector Jackdaw, head of froggy grammar police.
Surely that Jaques d'ore?
Eddie at 21:49, Mrs May has said quite openly that she didn’t support Brexit, but that she would respect the result of the referendum….. but don’t let that stop your usual amateur dramatics.
I always said May was a fence sitter. A rubbish Home Secretary and a futile ineffective PM. For all the good she has done ie none she should go now.
Funny, that. The electorate were so smart in 2015 when they agreed with you, and then again in 2016, but all of a sudden they produced a result you aren't happy with and that shows all of their lack of common sense.

Also that rant was meant for another thread. sorry.
naomi ,my point was that the EU negotiators are as well aware of Mrs May's non support for Brexit as you and I are. That is why she carries no weight with them, they know for certain she is not speaking from her own beliefs but from political expediency .
Jim, since a goodly number of them were naive enough to fall for Corbyn's unachievable promises it does indeed show a lack of common sense. You'd have thought that any fool could have seen through that nonsense ... but apparently not. Hey ho! They live ...and, hopefully, learn.
I'll accept that if you can believe the statistics but there is some speculation involved. What isn't shown is the numbers leaving who were in full time employment.
Eddie, //they know for certain she is not speaking from her own beliefs but from political expediency . //

She was elected to speak not on her own behalf, but on behalf of the electorate - the majority of whom want 'out' - and that's exactly what she said she will do and exactly what I expect her to do. As for carrying weight with 'them', if for one moment you can stop regarding 'them' as your masters you might just realise that they're not.
^ The majority of those who actually voted naomi NOT the majority of the electorate . Remember 37% did not vote. Of the non voters I have spoken to the large majority did not vote because they assumed Remain would win by a landslide and their voting would have been pointless.
All discussions such as this are now pointless anyway. We will be out of the EU, but as has been made even more clear not out in any meaningful way. It will allow the government to say they have respected the will of the people but nothing will really change.

Dragging our feet about leaving shows a reluctance, a lack of confidence in our future.
2 years should be ample to set a new course, amd go for it. But a year was wasted, while all the remainers in charged tried to deny the result. Now their tactic is for a long drawn out torturous departing, hoping that they can wriggle out of implementing it fully at all.
Like a car crash in slow motion, the inevitability of betrayal was unfortunately only too obvious.
