Could be interesting, alberqwerty.
I’ve got to go now, but will check back later to see if you found anything.

As an addition to my previous post: If a homeowners house burnt down, and they fancied living somewhere vastly more expensive than their claim was for, would they expect the insurance company to pay out more, or expect their local council to chip-in?
the fussy bunch will eventually be left with no sympathy whatsoever.
(just my opinion)
"Unfortunately, we have no powers to compel owners to live in their properties but we can and do offer support.’"

Some might say 'extremely fortunately' given the propensity for largesse that some of the more left wing officials appear to have.
As I posted on an earlier thread about this matter, one man was on the news explaining that he had refused a perfectly good modern flat because it was on the ground floor and he would be able to hear passing traffic.
good grief Danny.
My gob is well and truly smacked.
Did no-one tell him to keep his double-glazed windows closed?

Alba, 09:38, see my comment, bottom of previous page.
I did, Balders, thanks x

at least it's gone up from 12 to 13 now :-)

Insurance has been mentioned, I doubt very much if any of the residents had took out insurance.

And it is little wonder that most of them who were offered alternative accommodation, turned the offers down, when they are living in posh hotels, most likely with meals thrown in?
The ones I have seen on the news in the weeks after the fire were not living in 'posh' hotels, and some were crammed 4 in a room!
But hey ho!!
// Insurance has been mentioned, I doubt very much if any of the residents had took out insurance. //

none of my tenants have ever taken out insurance- altho I am assured on this site (ha!) that contents insurance is "easy"
the landlord cant insure their contents ( unable to mitigate damage)

/// and some were crammed 4 in a room! ///

Surely that is luxury for some of them?
PP I rent and I have always had contents insurance, it is very easy to get and where I live very cheap.
Sorry AOG I am not understanding your last comment - can you spell it out for me?
4 in a room luxury?
PeterPedant, //none of my tenants have ever taken out insurance//

How would you know?
I rent and can have contents insurance either via my landlord or with any other insurance company I care to choose.

Don't think staying in a hotel, 4 to a room is comfortable. Not all hotels have that many family rooms surely?
Question Author
No one knows how many they would cram into a room, weren't some sub-letting?
ahhhh I see what you are disgustingly suggesting now AOG
Even if they were subletting it doesn't mean the flats were over crowded.
And if they were over crowded it wouldn't have been long before the council were informed.
