I think probably bad, it can only lead to a larger wage bill.

I would have objected to my salary being published and so think everyone is entitled to discretion.
I don't have anything in principle against this, other than the issue of the Presenters having their private business splashed out for all to see. Where does their right to privacy arise ?

Perhaps LBC will do the same, and tell us how much Farage is being paid for his part-time activity ?
Do we pay the wages of LBC staff?
Bad. It's none of our business!
Talbot...what difference does that make ?

Would you be willing to have your income details splashed across the media ?
Like Graham Norton or not , you can not tell me he is worth 2.5 million.

We pay their wages, I think we are entitled to know how much we pay them and if we get value for money.
If I worked for the BBC and my wages were payed by licence payers ... yes.
I'm in two minds about this....

On the one hand, as a Licence-payer with no option other than to pay(and I am happy to pay) I would rather my money went towards the production of world-class programmes rather than into the pockets of a few notable presenters;

On the other, as a rule, I believe someone's salary to be a matter between the individual and their employers....
Graham Norton has his own company. They could reveal how much they pay the company but we won't know what share he takes home.
Oh I love the 'we pay their wages chant' ! Do you want to know what each and every civil servant gets as well?
As TTT says, it can only lead to a larger wage bill. There will be those who, envious of what their colleagues are earning, will be on the phone to their agents the moment they read the report. Rival companies will know just how much they need to offer to prise people away from the BBC. In the end, this report benefits no-one.
Surely there are many occasions when salaries have been revealed e.g when workers get pay rises, '
I am not sure what is going to be achieved by releasing this private information. I suspect the critics of the BBC, of which there are more than a few here on AB, hope that some Presenters will disappear.

I neither like nor watch Graham Norton, but I am a big fan of people like John Humphrys, and I think he is worth every penny he gets !
LBC
Civil servants

Anyone else want to introduce something random?
If it is right to publish salaries because //We pay their wages, I think we are entitled to know how much we pay them and if we get value for money. // then should it apply to all, for instance the tea lady or the toilet cleaner, everone employed by the BBC.
Good question Donny !
AS I said earlier, teachers, doctors, nurses etc have all had their salaries published. I can't see any problem here.
Most of these 'top earners' are doing other jobs.

I would love to know what the likes of Gary Lineker are on per hour ... I bet it would make the eyes of even the most ardent supporters of 'non of our business' water.

You do not need to pay anyone an obscene amount of money to talk about football.
what's random about civil servants, Talbot? You indicated that if we pay then we have a right to know what we're paying. We pay civil servants.
