Personally I cant stand the places. I liked to have a beer with mine and sit in a comfy seat without interruption from people all around me so I gave up many years ago. Plus the cost is ridiculous.

Looks like I am not alone, how about AB'ers?

Not for a long time you young, I can buy films through Virgin, as you say, too expensive. I watch when I want to, when I'm not too tired, I choose the time.
You young? Ha! :0?
I never really enjoyed it even when it was the only option.
I think sitting in a darkened room with a lot of strangers is a very odd thing to do. Haven't been since 1997 and the time before that was 1974
It is when you think about it hc!
It's still the best way to watch a film but I tend to go only for films I've been eagerly awaiting, usually the latest bond film. It's silly money and you get annoying little sh1tbags that cannot go 5 seconds without using their phone.
Same as sitting in a jacuzzi with strangers, Eleena. I mean, why would you?
1984 was my last visit to the Cinema, only used to go because of the children.
I wriggle and take numerous loo breaks so it isn't the best place for me to watch a film.

I don't know 'when' I last went but it was about a dragon voiced by Sean Connery
haven't been to a cinema since the 1960s!
Though there used to be a certain 'screen' at the local cinema that was a little more expensive, which would give you big easy chairs, somewhere to put your drink & munchies... and a bar on!! Never did experience it though.
Lol Tora!
The last film I went to see was ' The Polar Express' in 3d .. absolutely magical!
Yes the days of the Picture Palaces are over.

Long ago people left their dark dank lino floored houses, to visit the lovely brightly lit and warm carpet cladded emporiums of their foyers and waited on comfortable settees for the previous film showing to end.

Then they were personally shown to their seat by a lady usherette, for the start of the 'B' movie followed by the intermission when the ice cream seller came around, then the News, Pathe magazine and trailers showing, before the start of the 'Big Movie'. a true treat and one could hear every word, none of this mumbling then.

And if one so wanted one could sit through it all once again, ah the bliss.
There must be more innovative ideas now in cinema, haven't been in such a long while.
Haven't been for years & would much rather watch a film at home.
Aog, how nostalgic! I reckon someone should take that idea and open a retro picture house with all those lovely things!
i dont go now as the volume is so loud I can't hear what's been said x
The building I worked in up until earl January used to be an old cinema!
Dragon 1996 Wolf.
Our local cinema was closed for five years. Now it has been opened and refurbished by a small company which have done similar elsewhere. It is very popular at nearly half the price of nearby chain cinemas and you can sit at your own table with a drink. Only downside is that new films are about ten days 'late' but who cares. People get a table for themselves and friends/family and they have special showings of cult/most popular films. It's about £6 a time and you can even bring pies from nearby chip shop.
