Oh, what a loss. He had a great talent and wit.
He told the story of when he went to the optician he was told he should give up driving, the quote from the optician being something like "Mr Dexter you've killed enough people in Oxford I don't think you want to kill anymore".Also his love of crosswords gave us his character names such as Morse after Sir jeremy Morse.
RIP Colin, a wonderful weaver of tales.

I knew he was a classicist but surprised that he was a Cambridge man. I always had him down for Oxford.
He did, Jourdain.....he taught many friends of mine at Corby Grammar School til deafness became a problem....he was a super teacher...x
