andy-hughes at 09:04, well, we were talking about what you erroneously claimed Jesus said - but if you prefer not to continue that discussion, that’s fine. It strikes me that in this instance it would be more appropriate to appeal to the better nature of the Muslims who, at a Christmas event, were promoting Islam, reminding them that little respect for other people doesn’t go amiss.

You and I and everyone has absolutely no idea what Jesus said, if indeed he existed to say anything, but let's not get bogged down with that juicy sidetrack.

I see nothing disrespectful in using a public gathering to promote understanding of a faith - the disrespect angle only comes in when people are unwilling to allow that.

The stall holders knew what their stall would be ‘selling’ but I’m not sure the organisers would have known what the pitch was booked for – but don’t let that stop you scraping the barrel.

Scraping the barrel? I think we have established that they were there with permission so it is the antiMuslim brigade here who are scraping the barrel by trying to defend people taking matters into their own hands when it is none of their business. If they had concerns they should have done it through the proper channels. Maybe ignoring them would have been the best policy- that's what I'd have done- that would have sent more of a message.
Will look at other link later after work Naomi- if it's the one confirming 9 year old brides in the West, yes I saw it and agree it is shocking- although I noted that the marriages took place overseas so we may struggle to stop it unless we can detect it when they return and punish the offenders or get foreign governments to step in
