Why the fuss, you couldn't have a Christmas/Religious stall at a market in Saudi Arabia!

Maybe the intolerant hate preachers on both sides will one day realise their own contribution to the conflict.
Not exactly tactful
What did they expect?
//Western Europe does not model itself on Saudi Arabia. We'd like the opposite to be the case, wouldn't we? //

If that's what "we" would like, Ellipsis, then why:

Do we allow the building of mosques throughout Europe using Saudi money (recent offer by Saudi was to build 200 mosques in Germany alone - did you see that?)?
Import Salafist imams to lead the prayer in them?
Allow unfettered immigration from areas with a strong fundamentalist tradition?

While none of these things will necessarily "remodel" Europe, it will at the very least make Europe a less liberal and tolerant place.

Do you see a flaw in my reasoning?

PS: I donated your £50 to Tambourine's hospital ship.
//The more we give the more will be taken//

"L'appétit vient en mangeant", Togo. Think that was Montesquieu. Will said "increase of appetite w by what it feeds on". //

Concession to the sensibilities of strangers would be more convincing as a strategy if there were obvious signs of reciprocation.
Will S, that is. No - not Self, the other one.
Typing in MS Edge again "...grows by what it feeds on"
What they do in Saudi Arabia is irrelevant. The fact is it was antagonistic. Like setting up a stall selling Christmas decorations outside the entrance to a mosque would be.
Good decision.

Ludwig - The concept of antagonism depends entirely on personal perception.

If I was Naomi or divebuddy or YMB, I may very well see this stall as provocative, however, from my own perspective, I would have seen nothing of the kind.

It does depend on your personal perception of Muslims.
A stall promoting Islam has no place in a Christmas market. Good decision.
Does a Christmas market promote Christianity or is a chance to flog various products?
My view is that a 'Christmas' market is Christmas in name only - and the vast majority of people see it that way.

I would see no problem with a Muslim stall on the basis that the market is designed to celebrate Christmas as a religious festival - because the vast majority of people attending would not think of it that way, and are unlikely to be bothered by the presence of such a stall.

If I attended Christmas markets, which I don't, I would simply ignore the stalls that didn't appeal to me, whatever they were selling.
The Corbyloon and I have cross-posted, but I can see that his position is identical to mine.

A 'Christmas' market is no different from a 'Farmers'' market or a 'Continental' market.
Most Christmas markets are overpriced tat. A stall promoting any religion ? I doubt I would notice,

I look at the warnings, of the increasing tide of Muslims to Europe, as to the warnings we were given many years ago, about the deterioration of the environment.

Nothing was done then, the same as nothing is being done now to curb the influx of Islam followers, so it looks like we will all suffocate, under our own so called rules!
What would be the reaction if the C of E set up a stall promoting the "true" meaning of Christmas at a Christmas market in England and denounced its commercialisation?
andy-hughes, //If I attended Christmas markets, which I don't, I would simply ignore the stalls that didn't appeal to me, whatever they were selling. //

And that would be your choice. Others choose differently.
