The house has been offered by the C of E and accepted as suitable for rehousing those bought over on the 'Syrian People's Resettlement' program that I just mentioned. The fact that it is in a village is not relevant to the argument. Anyway the Telegraph link says '98% of the village are in favour' of it.
divebuddy/ naomi, it has already been explained that the 15 for and 5 against is about the application for 'change of use' of the building NOT the resettlement of the refugees !
Eddie, you're reading something that I can't see there - and I seriously suspect that the 98% of the village who were in favour of it consisted of the Parish Council and the PCC combined. But is all academic now anyway because it's not going to happen.
Oh fgs if only 5 persons objected out of a village of 250 why are you getting so hot under the collar.

I get really annoyed at being called day after day a left hand wringer - but if I started calling you Nazi's or members of the KKK I would soon be removed - so why don't you leave the name calling alone OK!!!
Eddie at 18:07, I know, and I've acknowledge that.
Islay, //Oh fgs if only 5 persons objected//

That related to planning permission.

Call me what you like.

Excellent news !

As Islay says....this property belongs to the CofE, so what possible business is it of yours trt ?

I am not a Christian, but I would like to ask a simple question...what would Jesus have done ?
divebuddy, I couldn't see that happening in any small village.
mikey, calm down.... it's not happening.

In answer to your question, 'What would Jesus have done', that's debateable. He wasn't keen on foreigners.

Jesus would have opened a pub up, making wine from water and creating Ciabatta pork and cucumber sandwiches out of nothing, charged the immigrants a fortune and then retired to Bethlehem - in Pennsylvania, not Israel.
Everyday, I get more depressed.....

reading threads like this where the milk of human kindness has turned so sour.

God forbid you are ever reliant on the kindness of strangers who view you in the same terms as you view these poor unfortunates.
I am still unsure why people are so against the Church responding in this affair. This is exactly what I would want my Church to be doing......charitable work !
Jack...well said at 18:29 ! BA for Jack !

DB....but this is't going to be a all-night casino, or an abattoir....what a ludicrous thing to say.

I am still unsure why people should object to this caring and considerate move by the Church. Shame on you all.
^Oh gawd!
