The news was not that the drivers had been awarded a pay rise, but that they had won an employment tribunal : in future they will have to be given full workers' rights, including being paid the minimum wage

No, and I never will. Dad was a London black cab driver.
long series of cases at the Employment tribunal that contracts whcih say this is not an employment contract is determined to be ..... an employment contract.
leading case is this I think

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ready_Mixed_Concrete_(South_East)_Ltd_v_Minister_of_Pensions_and_National_Insurance

a bit like Street v Mountford for leases.
( licences saying this is not a lease are construed as .... leases)

usually the reader will be glad to hear
a contract is a contract is a contract.....
a loose thinker from the Adam Smith institute was defending the employers view
with wizzy points like - but they can earn what they want when they want ( has he never heard of zero hours contracts ? )
and ... lots earn over the minimum ( well theyre not covered then )
and the great majority dont want this case ( fine they can work under the crappy conditions then )

he then said - many earn £10-20 a hour before expenses - which kinda in the taxi business I would rank expenses as high
and if expenses are 30% gross then you are down to minimum wage levels
I can't remember when I last used a taxi. This is a great success for the ordinary working person, and I applaud it wholeheartedly.
