Why doesn't the PM call an early election ,instead of waiting until 2020 .

She would win hands down .

True, it the thought of going through all that again, appals me.
But, the thought. **
But then why? Establish a track record and more credbility to bury Corbyn and his communists (oops socialists).

Perhaps she is a Sadist , who wants to keep labour out of power for as long as is possible

Think we need to be fair to Corbyn and give him the chance to really screw HM's Opposition and let things run full term.
They already have a majority, so there isn't much point in having an election now.

And it would need Opposition Parties to agree to it, why would the SNP want another General Election when they have 54 out of 57 seats?
Why would she win hands-down?

Sure, Corbyn isn't liked much in the media, but then, the media has been the wrong side of the vote for a few things recently?

I think you're right, but I'm just going on my gut feeling. What are your reasons?

Also, it might muck up the boundary changes they're after?
She could try, but Labour could just block it as now you need to pass a vote of no confidence, or a resolution to hold an early election to pass with a two-thirds majority to force an early election due to the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act of 2011. Or just repeal the act.

At any rate, unless the government decides it has no confidence in itself then it's unlikely to happen.
Gromit, do they need agreement? I thought it was in the hands of the PM.
Good trick that, answering my question before I asked it. Well done.

I was thinking that perhaps Mrs May would want the nations official seal of , approval of her sitting in the captain's chair , earlier rather than later
What would be the point?

I agree Mrs May would win easily, but that's just a load of expense and hassle to prove that Labour are unelectable - and we can all see that for free!

Neither Corbyn or May have been proven electable (by anyone other than their own parties).

The last incarnation of the labour party that lost an election was a new-labour-zero Miliband lead one. Corbyn's seems to be at least a different flavour?

Well all , apart from 'labour party members' , it would seem

Murdo, I agree that their trident stance is something that makes them un-electable.

I wondered if there were any other reasons?

I think there's a much unloved left wing/socialist strain in the country that could be appealed to by someone with SOME of Corbyn's policies. Less greedy train companies for example, nationalisation of some key assets that are important to national security - that sort of stuff.

Also, the electorate are knackered - we've just voted on something, we probably need a little break before politicians come and ask us what to do again.

That is certainly true.
