/// Foreign Office advice to women travelling in India suggests they 'respect local dress codes and customs and avoid isolated areas, including beaches, when alone at any time of day'. ///

Wrap up girls, you know it makes sense.

Fancy telling women what not to wear the outrage! We in the west would never do that would we?

Oh wait ...........
Question Author
Khandro

/// If you include Pakistanis and Bangladeshis in your definition of 'Indians', you are going to get in one a helluva mess. ///

And why would that be?

They may be separate countries but they are still part of the Indian sub-continent, are they not?

Just as the people of the continent of Africa's many countries are still Africans.

/// Oh wait ........... ///

Please try and be original dear.

/// Well!!!
We certainly wouldn't want women from other cultures being told what they ought to wear when in a foreign country, would we? ///

/// Oh....erm.....hang on a bit....

Khandro, I didn't mean resident males of the UK. I meant men who live in and who grew up in India, who think it's ok to rape. Someone said it's a "rapey country". I was replying to that. You have really upset me. I am going to leave this thread.
Try and be original?

Does that mean I cannot express and opinion or make a comment if someone has thought or expressed it before.

Perhaps you should inform Ed that you are changing the rules on the site now!

/// Perhaps you should inform Ed that you are changing the rules on the site now! ///

I am not or even have the power to change the rules of the site, I am merely expressing an observation.

Many including myself have inadvertently repeated the views of another AB, but most have had the courtesy to apologise to the originator of the particular view.

But then politeness does not seem to be included in your character, you only demand it from others.

What rot - so I am supposed to apologise everytime I express a view as someone before me?

Can you please tell me where that is in the British etiquette manual?

Oh and as for rudeness - pot, kettle, black springs to mind. You will also notice that I am not rude to all just to a chosen few!!
aog; Many years ago in Britain, people referred to all the people from that part of the world as "Indians" (you apparently still do). Only as it unfolded did many begin to see that they were not a group. The term Indian Subcontinent smacks of the Raj and I never hear it used today, there exists, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and arguably Kashmir.
Your analogy with Africa falls short too. There are no such people as "Africans",
Israel is just as much in Africa as Somalia.
Asit happens I know a number of Indian women who live there who wear what is being described as 'Western dress' I also have numerous other friends from around the world who, irrespective of their nationality or religion, choose to wear what they want.

The Minister is expressing himself poorly, just like you so frequently do AOG.

"Hello, my name is divebuddy, I'm a European." Is that what you say?

No can't see Israel listed amongst the African countries either.

divebuddy

/// Khandro. Are you going to tell the Afro-Americans about their deluded status or do you want me to do it, while you hide somewhere. ///

Well put divebuddy, bet you don't get an answer.
divebuddy; Use the term 'Afro-Americans' in the US, it's you who had better hide.

OK, Israel is just in Arabia, so substitute Egyptians and Ethiopians.

What`s the problem? I was in India yesterday. Of course I wouldn`t go walking down the road in a short skirt and a low top which shows my boobs (I would`nt do that in the UK either) Just seems live sensible advice to me
