Fortunately for them, the Swiss area level-headed people and voted it out.
//.... as usual they never think it through.//

fink it foo ?
naaaa - they've voted it out

another belter from 3T ....
Autonomous vehicles and robotics will elimate the need for 10 million employees in the UK. What will all those people do. We should be thinking about that now and preparing for it.
The Swiss idea may sound nutty, but at least it is trying to pre-empt a problem and create a solution.
15 million people with no income and nothing to spend, will devastate our economy. Radical ideas on spreading wealth will need to happen, one way or another.

yes gromit, I'd like £1800 a month buck shee too but someone has the create wealth and if we can all get it sat on our aris who will be incentivised to earn the money?
When i was at university 40 years ago we were told of a new world of leisure because of technological progress where adults would only work 10-15 hours a week instead of 40. I know many people now nearly forty years later working over 40 hours a week.
It was a ludicrous proposal and deserved to be voted down.

78% of people voted against it !
TTT,
Wealth will be created without the few than 10 million. The companies will be making massive savings and therefore vastly increased profits. Governments around the world will need some of that money to maintain the fabric of society. There will be no point in Amazon getting super efficient if there is no one able to buy their goods.
There are millions of jobs not being done now, because people are too busy to volunteer. Some payment based on a persons community altruism could make us happier and more functioning as a society.
Somehow, we have to workout what to do with an unwanted workforce.
Agreed Gromit- but anything that makes coming into the country attractive to the workshy isn't going to help
mikey ... Why do you frequently put up a link from the BBC when one has already been provided by the OP?
I don't get it!
Talbot...because my link comes from the BBC and isn't the same as the SKY link. Can't we have a mix of mediums here ?

The BBC is my Home Page and I get the majority of my news-based knowledge from it. I don't have access to the DM, nor would want to, and I don't like SKY.

Can't see what is wrong with what I have done ?
^It's no wonder you never get anything right.
My headmaster in the junior school told us that, ff. He said our lives would be a constant search for leisure activities because robots and computers would do all the work.
Guess he was half right.
Iwas told that daft tale too, and didn't believe it.
It's a nice idea as long as all citizens turn up when drafted for their period of employment and the pre-training. All has to take their turn to contribute to society, if able. And differentials must still exist to reward those who contributed most. It'd basically be a decent welfare safety net plus incentives. Needs perfect control of migration though. And accurate calculation as to how much wealth is slopping around each year to be shared. Sounds one heck of a control task.
