The notion of the PM changing Chequers into a childrens' home is an admirable one, but since it belongs to the state, and not to him, that would be tricky.

Perhaps he can throw open the doors to whatever private residence he moves to when he retires as PM?
Danny, //Just announced on radio that we will accept these child refugees. //

The UK government has agreed to accept more unaccompanied Syrian refugee children, although it has not committed to a specific figure.

David Cameron said ministers would talk to local councils about how many more they can re-settle.

Labour said the announcement did not go far enough and more action was needed.

gawd elp us, send for Bojo
This was the right thing to do. Turning our backs on desperate children is an embarrassment. Leadership eventually shown ...
load of old pony, those saucepans are not orphans this is a play by the smuggers and the EU are falling for it. LOCK DOWN THE BORDER NOW.
Ellipsis, they're not desperate. They're in a safe country.

TTT, I don't believe they're orphans either.
Obviously my opinion differs, Naomi, as do many others, including now the PM ...
Ellipsis, are you sure that's his opinion?
it's a bit dishonest of the media to shame us with pictures of girl toddlers sat in an appalling mire of mud, when most of the "children" in the jungle camp will be male teenagers, some of whom will already have beards.
mushroom, par for the course.
Fair point Naomi but it's the line he's now toeing.
He's a politician.

I have always voted Tory.
That's still the way to go imo.
Now Cameron must go, he no longer represents my views or that of a large number of fellow Tory Supporters.
No more immigrants of whatever age - we cannot afford to look after our own people - aged or children - old people in creaking care homes - our own ex-soldiers living on the streets and yet this government gives away 12 billion to grasping corrupt third world regimes.
Yes, a very weak man indeed.
Well, the forged document specialists will soon be having a field day. 'Yes! he is my long-lost brother's son - I feared him dead. Of course he can come to live with us in Britain." Nothing but contempt for Cameron - taking refugees straight from the war zones was the correct action - he has now betrayed what he said were his own beliefs.

Personally, I wish that we had specified taking the Yadzizi who have been so horribly persecuted. (Not sure how you spell that, sorry.)

“David Cameron said ministers would talk to local councils about how many more they can re-settle.”

I can save him a phone call to my local authority. Their answer (and they are Tory controlled) will be none, zero, zilch. They have a housing waiting list that means most people (except those with no money, nowhere to live, no job, no prospect of a job and who have multitudinous children) will wait many years for social housing. They have a chronic lack of carers and foster parents. Oh, and a distinct lack of money. My Council Tax has just increased by the magic figure of 3.99% because they have insufficient funds for “social care” (which I suppose includes looking after lone child refugees).

“This was the right thing to do. Turning our backs on desperate children is an embarrassment.”

Then the correct strategy would be to heap embarrassment where it belongs – on France. These children are not in war torn Syria. They are in France, a civilised country where people from the UK go for holidays and day trips. Imagine the situation reversed. The UK was continuing to hold child refugees in squalid conditions. What would France do? Take them in or make a fuss about the squalor the UK was providing for them? You only have one guess.
Oh dear ! ........its only a year since the Election and already Dave is losing his friends.
He can join coreblimey as a pariah. At least the Torys can speak their mind about their leadership and are not programmed to the socialist mantra,"Right or wrong my leader and my family voted Labour all their lives."
Don't start your crowing yet mikey. You have tomorrow to worry about!
No crowing meant Retro !

Actually, I am on record of agreeing that we should be doing more for the humanitarian support of these child refugees.

I believe Dave is basically a decent man, and have said so on a number of occasions. So, although I didn't vote for him, I think he is making the right move here.
