Nothing short of thieving scumbags.

The question is when did this happen? Before or after the race? If before, then they're stealing, if after I imagine they were told they may take it.
There are hundreds of discarded empty bottles, at the side of the road, in one photo. I suspect the race was actually over.
I think the race is over and they are just helping themselves to the water from the unmanned water stations. Still wrong and they should still be prosecuted for theft, unless they have been told its a free for all, which I very much doubt!

Stealing water???

/// What...are the taps not working in Deptford? ///

Yes the tap water is very good in this country, but it doesn't stop people paying an exorbitant price for bottled water, hence the reason it is stolen if the need arises.
considering that bottled water is often more expensive than petrol, it can be sold on at a good profit!
what was otherwise going to happen to the water after the race?
I think those individuals should be exposed and made to clean up the rubbish.
The rubbish clean up is down to the organisers of the race, Chip.
// Why are the faces pixel//ated? cassa

I have never understood the media pixelation policy
they say it is data protection but I think they are over egging the pudding on that one - didnt the police once issue a wanted notice with a pixelated photo to general hilarity ?
looks like that's exactly what they were doing, Chipchopper.
PP, the headlien calls them "thieves". When you do that, you're wise not to show them identifiably, lest you've made a little mistake, as newspapers sometimes do.
Whatever, they still make me feel sick and I'm no angel.
It will be on the black market this morning.
agree sp
it would be worth a comment from the organisers
"It will be on the black market this morning. "

brilliant !...

Yes, I missed that double entendre from Svejk.

Lol. Another on missed.

//Yes - why are their faces blacked out ............ name and shame!!//

Seems Hugh Brasher had no problem calling a shovel a shovel. As organiser of the event he happily uses the word 'stolen' with regard to the removal.
It's just been confirmed that there was people still running while the water was being stolen. An ex policeman on The Wright Stuff said it was witnessed on CCTV cameras. Isn't the tap water good enough? Maybe there's a lot of car boot sales on at the moment.......
//I'm just thinking that there doesn't appear to be many runners on the street...?//

Is that supposed to be an excuse for theft. If you had ever attended a marathon you will find the event goes on a lot longer than what you see on television.
There are the front runners who run in packs but several hours later ,even when the roads are gradually opened ,there are thin streams of stragglers who are advised to run on the pavement if possible. One year a man walked it in a diving suit and lead boots. Took him about 4 days. He needed the water more than anyone!!
