Didn't understand the"last coach has passed" reference. Maybe if all the runners had gone by, someone started a rumour that the unused water was now wasted and group mentality said, "What a waste, I'm getting some of that".

Why are the faces pixelated? Why don't they just show their faces then they will have an opportunity to say why they took it.

Perhaps as already stated they thought it was going to waste. Or they had been told they could take it? I don't understand why anyone would bulk steal bottles water like that but hay, I don't know how bad the tap water is inLondon? Is it drinkable lol

Perhaps the race was over and they were told they could help themselves. Where are the volunteers who were manning the water station? It all seems very strange to me.

One thought - were these pictures taken during the race, or when organisers were packing up?

In one newspaper the question was put to the Buxton suppliers to find out whether the people were really stealing, but a comment hasn't been made yet.

I'm just thinking that there doesn't appear to be many runners on the street...?
