I wasn't aware that there were variations in the allowable blood alcohol levels across the country, so equalisation makes some sense.

But the reintroduction of smoking in pubs and bars?

Seems a bit retrograde.

Ummm...yes, I am. The ban on smoking in public places has been a great success and widely welcomed, even by some smokers ( as can be seen on this thread and the many others that we have had over the years)

And yet the completely rational wish that everybody should be able to enjoy an evening in the Pub, like I did last night, without the stink of cigarette smoke and the overflowing ashtrays seems make no sense to some of our resident smokers.

They have lost the argument and there will be no going back to the old days, especially by any future Government led by UKIP, as UKIP will never win an Election.

If this desire to bring back the old days is the best that Farage can manage, just a few weeks before major local Elections all over the UK, then he has completely lost the plot.

Mikey....smokers are logical and rational. They made a bad decision, probably as a teen, to start the habit.

I was brought up in a pub and I remember coming downstairs to the bar to be met with thick smoke. Even smokers don't want that. I am 100% happy to go outside to smoke.

Umm...I am pleased to hear that !

But I would urge you to give serious consideration to stopping smoking. I am not preaching but I missed a funeral of an old BT friend, over Easter, who died from lung cancer. My own mother died of the same 20 years ago this May 1st. Its a horrible death.

As I say, I am not preaching, just gently urging you to at least consider quitting !

to all those advocating smoking areas and industrial strength extraction, yada yada, the problem is making all boozers do it and then ensuring they are kept in good repair. In some boozers they cant even get the kazi flushing. They may start off with good intentions but once the system breaks down they'd just be left. No, smokers, you had it your way for centuries.
